I have one of the tow hook plate things that I used on my 996. I think I have the plate for my 997 mounted to it and have never put it on. My bumper has been drilled and has all color matched plugs in the holes. All the Renn... snobs get up in arms when they see one drilled. I don't really care.

We have the required front plates here in CO as well. that sucks you can't just pay it and move on. Its like one of the speed camera ticket things. Pure revenue generator.

I live in IL, a state that requires a front plate. In practice no one seems to really care except Finance ticket writers. I keep front plates on the two cars that are street parked. My VW already had a plate holder on it so NBD. My SE-R had never had a front plate before I registered it here, so I used 3m VHB double-sided tape to hold the front plate on. That has worked for many years now, and no holes.

When I was working at Boeing up by LAX, I was told that El Segundo had a strict front plate policy that was enforced even on parked cars there for lunch. I never tested that enforcement policy. My SC was never drilled for a front plate so I improvised with some long zip ties. It was a Road Kill moment when I put them on.

This is such a ridiculous vehicle code violation. You can go to any CHP or Sheriff's Station to have it signed off. The desk personnel will inspect the vehicle and stamp your citation indicating that you have corrected the violation, then you can pay it as instructed on the citation. Very petty violation.

So this happened in Glendale but you blame it on "LA?" CA. has a 2-plate law, period. If you have a nice sports car and don't want a front plate, you can keep it in the car and put it on the dashboard when you park. Or use adhesive velcro tape on the front bumper and plate and install it when parked or to get a ticket signed-off. Drilling holes in the bumper of a Porsche would be pretty stupid when there are so many other options, tow hook mount, etc...

I've had plenty of cars out here with no front plate, if it's CA. registered, you risk a ticket. That's the law. It doesn't happen much. It has happened to me in Minnesota, (most states have a 2-plate law), but never in CA. with an out-of-state car no matter what the law is in the registered state. Meter maids only write them for home state violations.

This is such a non-issue in any size scheme of things...just pay the ticket and consider it a "vanity tax."

No one runs with "zero plates" in CA. anymore, we've had paper temporary plates for years now. Your assertion was true in the past. Anyone driving with no valid plates gets pulled over immediately now if a cop sees them, it's a major "tell" of a crime/robbery car.

Cops in Los Angeles, (and I assume most places in the state), do not chase after and pull over vehicles with no front plate unless they want to pull them over for some other reason. There are tons of exotic/supercars on the road here and I've never seen one with a front plate, most of them do not even have a place to put one.

This is why I like TN. We have no front plates...no emissions testing...no vehicle inspections. Heck, we changed the design of our license plates years ago and I still see cars driving around with the old style plate.

As long as it will move under it's own power, you can drive it on the road in East TN.

In Washington cars over 30 years old are eligible for collector or year of manufacture plates. No front plate required for either.

I got a no front plate ticket once. Went to the Sheriff's substation to get it signed off. He did not go out and look, said something about they must not be very busy to be wasting time on this.

I was out for lunch near So Pas City Hall. Parked with the front bumper to the curb. The meter maid must have been having a slow day and not made their quota.

I haven't seen many cars without rear plates. More often are plates obscured by the dark tinting that supposedly foils red light or toll road cameras.

The feature you're looking for starts at 0:45, but the whole video is good.

I held the front plate onto a truck I had in the mid 90s with 2 pieces of 2 sided tape about 1 inch square. It worked fine and was easily removed.
