I need a backup phone "plan" ...
Accidently "losing" my phone yesterday afternoon made me realize something...
I need (must have) a plan in place in case "anything" should really happen to it. I need a phone that can assume my primary phone's number asap .... when I do NOT have access to.... anything and EVERYTHING and no one can reach me ![]() Help me out .... an alternate phone with an unactivated SIM (my primary number) that I can use too would work. Is there a way ... give me ideas ... thanks! |

Do you need a physical backup phone, or phone services? If it's the latter, look at Google Voice.

You could tell your cellphone provider you have lost your phone and sim, and want another phone and sim with the same number. Just don't have them switched on at the same time?

If your current provider has a brick and mortar store, just go there. They can brick the old phone and sell you a new phone and it is done. Hopefully you have your old phone backed up for the contacts and email and photos. Just restore the backup and done.

When you "upgrade" from an old phone to a new phone, hang on to the old phone, and keep it charged. Every new phone I've ever bought came with a new sim even if I was going to reuse an old sim, so hang on to whichever is "extra" and keep that around as a backup.
Back up new phone to "the cloud" (or your PC) so you can restore to the old phone. Of course, that only works if the old phone will support the same OS as the new phone. If it was something like an Apple, you could get one of the factory refurb cheaper phones "iPhone SR" or something like that. I'm sure the other major manu's have something similar.

I need a phone that either doesn't support 5GUC or allows you disable it (use 5G), etc. My phone is a networking swapping turd a lot ... always has been.
I run my current phone with 5G disabled most of the time... 4G is fine for me also ... I type and read real slow ![]() Last edited by KFC911; 12-31-2024 at 01:07 PM.. |

Do you have an iPhone? It’s easy to keep it backed up to either your local computer or iCloud. If you lose your phone you can disable it remotely, get a new one, and restore the new one from your backup. Maybe an hour process including the wait at your local T-Mobile store.

Agreed. If you have an iPhone and use iCloud, this is automatic. You switch devices and log in. 1 hour later, your new device is identical to your old one.
If you have an iPad or a spare phone, it’s even faster to transfer to the new device. What is wrong with 5G? Antiquated equipment or?

If you only have one phone then the free 5 GB iCloud backup would probably cover you. If you don’t want to pay extra you can install iTunes for free on your computer and then back it up locally either via WiFi or plugging in the phone with a USB. Either way it’s really easy.
