Live in a national forest in an earthquake zone with a volcano on the horizon.
Have a bug out couple of totes with guns/documents/krugerands and enough food for a few weeks. Would live at the airports for a while. The house is prepped to go a year without outside help. The recent news has inspired me to get more serious about clearing a fire break. Have let a lot of brush build up.

Was talking to a neighbor kid about his apocalypse plans. He intends to find an older couple who have prepared and then just camp on their lawn til their prescriptions run out. As much as I hate the little ****er it’s not a bad idea.

Live in the woods and fire response would be 20 min away- know for sure because we ve had ems here. Papers mean nothing, everything of value is online or on laptop so grab that if time. Pets first. Cars if possible but 911 is on a 4 post so that takes a minute. Any photos i d want are framed on on shelves so would depend on time. Have a high pressure well hydrant but spent enough time working fire service as a young man to knowthat its likely futile and maybe suicidal.
Luckily horses live outside with a metal shed so thats covered. Barn fires truly suck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I work from home so I am aware of what’s going on and have fire detectors and extinguishers. If I couldn’t put the fire out, I would get my wife and dog out and call FD. I have 8 fish tanks, bye bye fish. I have about $75k in guitars and amps and gear and 40 years worth of a record collection that I could never replace. I guess I would grab my guns and a couple of my best guitars, the important papers and kiss the rest good bye.
In the last couple years, two houses on our street have burned down to the ground. One house about 5 houses down, burned down with two elderly people in the house. Both died. Still no info about the cause of either. My grandfather was a lifelong fireman. I spent a lot of time with him growing up and I think he instilled in me a strong sense of caution, awareness and paranoia. When my wife moved in to my house she was not pleased that a rule of the house is the clothes dryer is not to be left running when nobody is home, no backyard fire pit, etc…after the neighbors died I think she appreciates my rules a bit more but at the end of the day our house was built in 1950, the neighbors are very close (and have fire pits) and anything is possible. Luckily my garage is not attached to the house which is good because if the 911 catches fire when I start it, I have a chance to save the house and if the house catches fire, I have a chance to save the garage and everything in there

Ha ha when we lived in LA there were two large earthquakes (Whittier and Northridge) so preparedness was a topic. Water, food, gas shut off, battery radio, first aid, shoes, etc. I was younger, so no Rx to deal with. My papers etc were all in my office downtown.
Anyway, I used to think - what would you keep around to barter with fellow survivors? I thought that insulin and baby food/formula would be good ways to prey on, excuse me, do willing commerce with, the most desperate. This was before the immediate answer to everything was “guns”. I was armed, but that was for Richard Ramirez (Nightstalker). I was in L.A. during the Rodney King riots - saw it start from my office on the 40-somethingth floor and GTFO, my neighborhood was utterly tranquil, we watched the rest on TV. Good thread. I’ve gotten lax. Time to tighten up.

Barter?
My plan was to stock up on pseudo ephedrine, the meth precursor chemical. I could have an army of junkie minions doing my bidding.

Scotch and Bourbon. In bottles ranging from hotel-room bar to handles.

Get off my lawn!

I simply can't foresee any sort of city wide catastrophic event. We are 100% safe from tsunamis. Hurricanes just bring heavy rain to us. I live on a hill, and we had 12 inches of rain in 24 hours and not a hint of flooding around here. We had a 4.7 earthquake and no damage, and the quakes are over after the waste water disposal was stopped.
We had a wildfire not long ago in the area with high winds. The fire department threw everything at it, and got it stopped. Red Cedar trees are the issue in Oklahoma. They are full of oils, and almost explode in fire. We don't have any of them around here.

![]() We don’t have any real threat of a widespread disaster around here. Fire, if I can’t fight it with extinguishers around the house we grab what we can and GTFO, get the cars out if possible. I don’t have anything that can’t be replaced and the fire station is right across the street from my neighborhood. Tornado, we have a safe place to hide out in our basement storage room. Longish term power or utility outage, we have a decent stockpile of canned food and water, batteries and power inverters to drive our pellet stove for heat and fridge/freezer for food. Also always keep multiple extra propanes for the bbq grille. Zombie apocalypse, I only need to get to my in law’s land in rural KS with our guns, food, and other valuables. We also have a couple of bug out survival bags just in case.
