Some of us are smart enough to realize what a load of crap organized religion is. For that reason I think crap is a pretty appropriate word to define how I feel about it.
I guess by your viewpoint no child is ever forced to do anything while in school, whether its learning stuff in classes or getting exercise in PE. I would argue that authority and peer pressure play a stronger role in our children's lives than you realize. A former governor put it best when he said that religion is a crutch for the mentally weak. I don't care in what part of your imaginary baseball field my opinion puts me or what the rest of the american taliban thinks about my opinion. One of my favorite sayings is that bible thumpers can pound their bibles right up their a$$es for all I care. ![]() |

I don't know how accurate his theory is, but it seems the same applies to atheist: there are some that simply don't believe in any dieties or higher powers, and some that seem to hate religion and want to destroy it where ever they find it. This guy's chief problem with religion seems to be that his kid's mother practices one, period. Why else worry about something that doesn't exists? I could care less if my kids prayed all day, any more than I'd worry about them writing Santa. I don't believe in either, and don't see belief in them as some insidious curse on humanity. Our society was developed using Christian morals as a guide, and I think it helps kids understand where our forefathers were coming from, as well as why they (and we) screw some things up and freak out over certain things (Janet's nipple, for instance). Heck, going to church and Sunday school every Sunday until I was 17 didn't hurt me a bit. In fact, it fired my interests in other religions and philosphies. Emanuel

I was considering posting on this subject, but I guess one can be an ******* and that's ok, but a "born again Christian" is a psycho. Hmmm, not worth the effort - but I will let Billy Graham know that you speak very highly of him. BTW, TWIMC, it was "religion is the opiate of the people" and it was Marx. I thought there was an intelligent requirement to own a Porsche. |

That is agnosticism. and some that seem to hate religion and want to destroy it where ever they find it. And that is "fundamentalist" (haha) atheism.

In atheist circles this comes up all the time: agnostics are people that don't believe in God per se, but do believe there are higher powers in the universe - most of the framers of the Constitution were agnostics. Atheist don't believe in either dieties or higher powers, no heaven, hell, angels, Valkyries, nothing. I don't know how the universe was created and I'm comfortable with my ignorance.
![]() People of various beliefs have a clear explanation for how the universe was created, and I don't see much use for it in their day-to-day lives. No one's skipping their Carrera tensioner updates because on the 6th day God created man, or the moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter's aligned with Mars. Emanuel
