Went to work for some training. I felt like low class scum parking at the chargers with our bushokie Volt.

More Ross adventure-
The process to spend 2 nights in a campsite and 2 in the resort cabins are as follows.

Insure your reservation at RLR are updated and locked in at the end of last year's trip.

Hop in an old 911 24 hours prior to the desired 1st night of camping at 5 AM to ensure arrival at the Marblemount Ranger station in time for their 7 AM opening to secure camping permits. (first time I've paid to camp, new fees of $15 a night this year... Arrrgh!)

Pack up a whole bunch of crap.

Leave at 9 AM to ensure arrival at the 11 AM Ferry on Diablo to the base of Ross Dam.

Unload and move said crap to ferry dock, and on to ferry.

Ride ferry to dock below Ross dam, unload crap to dock, load crap to flatbed truck for ride to Ross- 500' and about 2 miles of dirt road.

Unload crap from flatbed to dock, dock to rented powerboat.

Boat away to camping spot.

Glamping, aqua style.

Settled in

Perfect timing, started raining and blowing right after the tent was set up and the 12' x10' bug screened canopy over the picnic table. Love that!

Room with a view

First cup a joe half way down- eye's still at half mast

Survivor...

Well, OK.

2 cups O Joe, ready to go

The lake was down about 20' making the waterfalls all different than full pool.
Unlike Cali and Oregon we got less than a full snow pack- big salmon runs going on so Seattle City Light is keeping the Skagit full

Devils Gorge, jammed up real good

Just my best buddy from high school and I this time, nice and low key- He and I have this as a tradition for 25 years and counting

Silly as it is, I usually wear my "Sovereign of the Seas" cap whilst boating on Ross, found it floating in the lake over 20 years ago.
I keep thinking someone at the resort will say HEY!
that's my hat!

Master level Glamping.
These are so great to keep you dry and the bugs at bay- Now standard equipment for me.

I don't even know what year this Olds Ninety-Eight is ('96?) but when it drove by at the local Winn Dixie I had to go photograph it before leaving. How beautiful and clean!

Aurora forecast was strong for last night, I went to a spot that affords great northerly views on a ridge line above Baker Lake- 2 hours away.
Loaded up overnight basics and full frame Nikon for my 4th, 5th? attempt to see and photograph the phenomenon...

Success!
Subtle to the eye but unmistakable waves of otherworldly lights undulating... stunning!
It was sooo clear I could see climbers headlamps on Shuksan and Mt. Baker.

Gave me an extra kick since my Son and 3 buddies just summited Mt Baker about a month ago.

Transition to the resort went well, remote controlled and crazy life like campsite inspector arrived Friday to ensure we had left nothing behind and approve our departure.

One of my favorite views-

Kind of "meant to be" it's boat #52. 1952 is when the resort first opened after Ross Dam was finished in 1950.
It started out as reusing to floating cabins and cookhouse that were built for the loggers that floated around and dropped trees to be floated up and out towards Canada. The lake (at full pool) extends across the US boarder by a bit.

Another

Ditto

Bloody cold, as is nessesary

Took an evening walkout to the dam, this Barred Owl lived up to it's rep of being curious- walked by him initially, first saw him as he flew past down the trail and lit in a tree. He stayed put and observed me as I walked up and past him.
Love the absence of any sound when they fly close.

Dam!

View back to the resort

Group of women have been coming in and partying at the resort for many years now. The flotilla started with the Unicorn, and now has grown... the only good thing about all that is I've seen the unicorn and the eagle dump drunk females into the lake much to the amusement of their rather drunk friends and the rest of the people there.

They also were good examples for my Son and his buddies-

Boys!
These are the types to steer clear of

Resort people and gear transport Cat- twin 140's make it an E-ticket ride across the lake to the flatbed truck.

It too has been there at least since the 70's built there and designed by one of the Miss Budweiser Hydos

The cabins are always in top notch condition, the season is from June 1 to Oct 1- they work their tails off off season.

Really? Are they implying there is a savings by gaining 40%? I would call that advertising agency “snake-like”…

Wouldn’t it be more truthful, given the big splashy 40% eye candy? Should be 5% sayings over our 14 oz.

If they can keep the price spread. ha
