Great, so now state employees will have another pointless holiday, less will get done for the same amount of money.

Xmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, July 4, Memorial Day and Labor Day. I'd work on xmas if they'd let me, as it has no significance for me.

Not Cesear Chavez Day, MLK Day, etc.

California State workers get 14 paid holidays a hear.

So why take any of those days off? does $th of July have any significance to you?

If it does then so should a day off to remember your past president.

Lemme guess, you work for the state?

Hmmmm.... Independence Day, B-Movie actor turned politician. Yeah, I guess they're sorta the same thing

So using the CSEA logic, they should get a day off for each dead president, and the birthdays of certain ones. That adds up to a lot of dead presidents (pun intended).

Why haven't any of the Reagan canon-ists yet petitioned to get his birthday off? Or did they and I missed it?

So when Ahnold kicks the bucket, you're gonna want that day off too? What other actor->politicans can we memorialize?

I guess if you're gonna get RR day, then you gotta also have OBL day, right?

It's the day of his funeral idiot! Not the day of his death that people are takign off. BIG DEFERENCE
1 day, not every June11th from now on!

No I'm not a state employee!

Do you not have any respect for people mourning the president regardless of political views?

That's not true. Thom has a number of convictions in a couple of different states I think. And how do we know "Thom" is his real name? How about it "Thoms"? Or should I say OSAMA.

Would that also be a passed President? We have a few past Presidents around. Maybe these state guys can take another day off to remember them. Probably takes a day to remember them for most. Quick, name 'em, there's four left. Or, were some of them right?

I visited this thread, 3 pages after I started it, and find it pretty funny.

Do we only have to post adoring tributes, or can we actually discuss the pros and cons of the Reagan presidency? Do we have to wait "X" days, or until he is actually buried, after his death to discuss? Do we have to start a new thread - one thread for the glow and one for the row?

Actually in my initial post I mentioned the "mixed" legacy that I feel Reagan left - was that okay simply because I came down on the whole positive? Suppose I had spent the last few days thinking about that period in history and had therefore changed my mind - would I have to censor myself, or would others do so?

Anyway, some interesting reactions here.
