My daugther was 2 and a half when I got my car, driving with her in the car seat down a bumpy road I mentioned to her how bumpy the ride was, now 3+ years later it's still the "bumpy car" to her. I like to call it "way fast whitey" but realized recently that Jesse James uses that for a nickname. The old drag car was "A sticky situation" named for the fact that it was a stick shift (uncommon is sportsman racing), stuck great off the line and cause certain troubles with the wifey putting me in a.....you guessed it. The old big block F100 was "rumble wagon" or "mean green" and the new Ranger is "hedgehog" named for its big tires and Sonic blue paint (like Sonic the hedgehog). The Nissan was "the flag" for it's factory race truck paint scheme (red, white and blue) I haven't named the '73 yet (haven't even really started on it either) but I'm thinking about just "sticky"

My 911 is called Scroat or Ol' Scroat.
Simple reason that it's old and wrinkly around the edges (bellows)...

Don't know why we name our cars, I think it's a tad silly. Nonetheless, they all mean something and we've had:-

911 Carrera 3.0 Targa - Greenie (RIP)
M-B 300TE - Mother Goose
Golf IV GL - Jonathan Hatchet
Peugeot 205 Junior - Digit
Audi V8 - The V8
Audi A6 2.8 Avant - Worf
Hyundai Terracan - Homer
Mazda MX5 - The Runt

Bertram 28 - Aunty Whiskey

k911SC, the meaning of 'scroat', same the world over.
Also appropriate owing to the level of testicular fortitude required to extract the maximum from the car!

"Attilla the..... "is a great one.

Our family only recently started naming cars, but in college years I had a bile green Buick that was "the Republican lizard".

Recently, though, the P-cars have been:
"Lacy" my '75 S that a PO had put lace stickers UNDER the clear coat and for Lacy Underall (CaddyShack)
"Lily" my white '85 Carrera, for Lily von Shtupp (Blazing Saddles)
"Nina" our Boxster for her questionable past ala Nina van Horn (Just Shoot Me)
"Vera" my SC from "vier", German for 4, the 4th P-car
and now "Della", a German girl's name which means bright

Oh, and there was "Zoot", the Saab 900T ragtop. If you're a fan of the Holy Grail, you'll get it.

In order of appearance:
'67 Dodge Dart - "The Dart" (later to become the Fog when the guides went)
'74 International 1/2 ton - "The Intersmashable"
'80 Honda Accord - "Flex" (cause the unit-body was completely rusted through and I drove it Flinstone style)
'80 Chevy 1/2 ton - "The Mouse" (cause the 305 I stuck in it wouldnt start - the mice in my uncle's barn made a home in the intake and a few cylinders)
'67 Ford Galaxy - "Vronsky" (DeNiro's character in Deer Hunter - I hit a whole herd of deer in it - none survived)
'80 Ford 1/2 ton - unnamed as it has yet to distinguish itself

'77 930 - "Kermit" I have played with the idea of going from guards red to bright green just to complete the effect.. you ask anyone what kind of animal an early or impact-bumper 911 looks like and they all seem to think it's a frog..

We have 3 914s, a 74 corvette, an 87 Nissan, and a 95 BMW at my house. All but the BMW have names.

1974 914 1.8, My wife's car. She named it "Frodrick" After the character in Young Frankenstein. Shortened to "Frody" or the "Frodster" as in ****** roadster. She had this car when we met at an SCCA AX. She cleaned my clock then and I have been chasing her tail ever since.

1973 914 /6 2.4L MFI MY 914. Named "Igor (pronounced Eye-gore). Frodrick's sidekick from Young Frankenstein. Bought this car after driving her 914.

1974 L82 Corvette. "Miss Piggy" as in Plastic Pig.

1975 914 1.8L Named "Mangey". This is a foster child I am doing some repair work on. Got the name because it's a white car that sat under a tree for 4 years and ended up with black spots all over it that looked like mange.

1987 Nissan Pulsar (RIP) My $700 dollar car. Named "Nikkey". No logical reason for the name, that is just the feeling I got from her. She recently died at 300,000 miles. I parked her and will fix her when I get some time.

1995 BMW 540I. Bought just 2 months ago. We have not had this car long enough to discover her true name.

In the past I have had a number of cars with names. The first was my first car.

1969 Pontiac Firebird. 400 Ram Air III. 12 second quarter with street tires. Named "Fred".

1968 Pontiac Firebird parts car. Named "Shakespear" because we were always wondering if it was "to be or not to be".

1979 Porsche 924. My first Porsche. Named "Bob" after the mechanic who delivers the cobra in the Bill Cosby routine "200 MPH". Sold this after driving my wife's 914.

1980 Fiat 124 convertible Named "Tony" as in Fix It Again Tony"

1980 RX7 Powered by Chevy 383 small block. Dubbed "Oh ****" after the first time I hit the gas in it.

1977 Dodge Aspen. Always called it "the aspen".

Cars have definite personalities that are revealed after driving them for a while. I don't name a car until I have driven it for a while. Then I can find it's true name.

My first car and first Porsche was a '67 912 affectionately named "the orange *****box"

my '92 C2 was not very affectionately named the "redheaded slut"

The RSA doesn't really have a name, but as it gets more and more modified I refer to it as a "monster" more often

The WRX is named "Scooby Ru"

My 911's name is Britney. She had bald tires and shook her hips, all over the place.
