my orange car is immaculate
it's registration plate starts with 'YV'
it's called 'Yndig Vogn' (beautiful vehicle)

my red car needs a respray (really really californian-sun faded)
it's registration plate starts with 'YL'
it's called 'Yndig Lak' (beautiful paint!)

My 07 Dodge 2500 CTD is known as "The BMT" (Blue Man Truck)

The 911 used to be just called "the White Car" but is now known as "the Race Car"

I have named a few cars at the shop just because I felt they needed it.

A butt ugly goldish 83SC was named "Sarge" because I thought it looked like an Army car.

The bosses 71 911T vintage racer was named "Rusty Greer" after semi-famous TX Rangers outfeilder and all the rust I spent days treating.

The BMT and the Racecar.

"Sarge"

"Rusty Greer"

We call Ingo's the Turd....because it's brown. Dan Byer's is Stay Puff, it's white and USED to be quite soft in the turns....like a Stay Puff Marshmellow.

BAD TUB is my Speedster....DA CAB is the 3.6/SC longhood....then there's the silver 58 356 coupe, yet to be named....prolly "Jersey" as that's where I got it out of garage after a 20 year sleep.

i call my 911 simply "the red car" when speaking of it outloud, and thats just so i dont have to say "porsche" and sound all pretentious and upity. so, how did you arrive at the cute pet, or nickname for your 911, or otherwise?

ive had an "ultimate" thread dug back up? i count 2+ years,, dreams do come true.....

Back on page 1, Banjomike asked if there was a test for gender. Well, there is no need. The rules, as I was once taught, are:
- all cars are female
- the first letter of the name is the first letter of the make/model.

I once had a 1962 EK Holden called Ethel (or was it Ethyl).

Currently looking for names beginning with Sc or P. Somehow, Scooby doesn't seem right, gender issues aside! And Portia is too obvious.

Matt

Here's one Matt,

Scylla - from Greek mythology; a female sea monster who lived in a cave opposite Charybdis and devoured sailors.

Here's another (if you don't see your Porsche as a female who loves seafood),

Priapus - from Greek & Roman mythology; the god of procreation, guardian of gardens and vineyards, and the personification of the erect phallus.

PERFECT! "Gonna lube ol' Priapus Saturday mornin'. Gotta keep him up an' runnin'!"

- The 63 Chevy pickup I learned to drive in was "The old beater". If you had over 250k miles and head sized rust holes in the floorboards that had been fixed with fiberglass and chicken wire you might feel beaten too!

- The 72 Vega with the 3.5l aluminum V8 was "The little beggar". I can't for the life of me remember how it acquired the name.

- The beat-to-hell 76 Corolla (with the passenger side wheelbase an inch shorter then the drivers side!) was call "Aiders". When I got it it had a Raiders sticker on the back that was missing the "R". Some one looked at its ugliness and said "Ewww, it's got aiders".

- The 98 V70 Volvo wagon is called "New Vo". I really don't like it... The turbo doesn't make up for the fact it has an automatic and is front wheel drive. Bleh...

- The 87 740 Volvo wagon is called "Old Vo" or "The Tank" It is undestructable and has the advantage of a turbo with rear wheel drive. I think I will probably keep it instead of the 98 that we got to replace it. (I still having trouble dealing with an automatic...)

- The 93 Nissan pickup is quite inventively named "The Truck".

- The 87 Carrera is "The Pooch" because it is such a good boy. The name seems have the added benefit of pissing off a few of the "poorsha-or-die" crowd.
