Cant, On BA, Pete says they take numbers from around the country, but you have to admit car pricing and technical knowledge of the 911 are completely 2 different things. And Bruce is reputed to be THEY guy.

On the top end rebuild, it depends on what they are going to do. If you just need a valve job with machinework, new valves, guides, and rings, you are looking at $3500 to $4000.

If you are going to go with new P/C, 90% of the time unnecessary, then you've also got to worry about new studs, so it gets expensive fast. Unless absolutely necessary, I don't recommend new P/Cs, your bottom end will be happier for it.

Hurt my business?

If my honesty and my lack of patience for BS hurts my business....I'll live with that.

Funny how you talk about this when during all this, my business/service is still being requested.

See Shaun, in reality, people appreciate an upfront business ethic. I made myself a name in my professional life and my hobbiest life by being honest and being upfront with people. This thread is indicative of how I feel and how I react when someone trashes me. I don't disguise it with rethoric and politically correct games.

I hope people who come to me don't expect any games, because I wouldn't insult them with any. Someone made a comment once that sticks in my mind...and that is "he'd rather make $1000 off a man over and over again, rather than make $10000 of that man once."

There is value in that statement that guys like you won't understand.

In the end, I hope the number of people I've helped out numbers the people I've hurt by a wide margin. I can't help but offend some people by being the kinda guy I am, but I am content knowing that the kind of guy I am creates relationship with people who appricate me as much as I appreciate them.
Who helped you write this? The disparity of your actions and your words is great.

Lordy.

Somebody without an axe to grind needs to go back to square 1.

The ductail poster said in his post that he was out of time and money for projects. When I see a post like that and somebody selling a rare part, it is a natural impulse to let him know the market may be $XXXX.

I will say that when I've done this in the past, it's usually been via PM or e-mail.

I agree drago. My only request is that these guys have levied all kinds of general accusations against me and I keep asking for them to provide details, ones that will surely be damaging to me, but they won't.

For the life of me I can't understand why souk started this thread today after putting everything to bed yesterday afternoon.

I'm back to getting some work done today..........enjoy the read. Ba-bye! My work is done here.
Craigster, I appreciate the "The End" but unfortunately Souk and Jim and others have, again, said all kinds of general, very negative things about me, and when I ask them for details, there's a deafening silence.

no gentleman, it's not over until you either apologize and put your money where your mouth is. You started this, you made the accusations. Let's back them up. if not, you only prove my point.

And Souk, we've all agreed Noah is a good guy. Makes you wonder why he pulled your responses. What do you think?

I just read through this soap - opera

without having dealings with either person , and based on what I have read ... I have this to say...

Shaun, you really have to give up this " It's my duty to police " and don't worry about fairness.
If someone is on here to sell something and sells it... fine. Obviously thats what they wanted to do.
I have seen many a post in forums stating .. " What is this worth ".
If you try to tell people something is worth more than people will actually pay, then later try to sell your own item for that higher price... that resembles someone trying to increase a stock selling price before they sell it.

anyway, thats my 2 cents .. I generally stay outa stuff like this, but it seems like you won't stop until you feel your good name is cleared. Well, as you continue with this, it's going further in a hole. I'm sure there are people who will say " He's an OK guy " but concerning this particular event, I feel you were wrong, and it appears that I am not the only one...

so lets get back to Pelican-ing and get your agressions out on the track ...

I only step into this mess to ask a question: Exactly how many people need to tell you before you realise that meddling in someone else's commerce is wrong, Shaun??

The free market works fine, (when it is truly free, but that's another discussion), w/o your help. The classified BBS has enough traffic to ensure that an original ducktail will not be sold for $400, unless it can be done in less than 30 seconds before 50 people see the listing and start PMing the guy. Which is exactly what happened.

I agree that Souk might be "a lowballer", but so what?? He does not exist in a vacuum, he is part of the free market and it will do just fine. How well do you know Wayne? I know him pretty well, and you are just wrong. Period. He loves getting a bargain, (as do I), and if he had time to involve himself here he would straighten you out, I'm pretty confident. Noah moderates both Porsche commerce boards, with a very clear mandate from Wayne, and his numero uno ass-chapping piss-off is people who interfere w/ deals they are not involved with by interjecting opinions on value. Like you did on that thread. Continuing this will get you banned, and deservedly so. It is the worst kind of passive-aggressive, absolute pussy behavior- you should take a long, hard look at yourself.

Here is a good rule of thumb: If you would not dare do it in the real world, don't do it here. I have scored some of the most screaming deals in the history of man on cars/trucks/machinery in my life, from being in the right place at the right time, and if you pulled your "it's a community" schit by sticking your nose in my commerce, you would not have a nose left afterwards. Check around if you don't believe me, I'm serious. What you are defending is just wrong, and if someone gets a screaming deal on something in the classifieds, I say wonderful.

I could tell you stories of rich friends giving me deals, (I'm blue collar), and a certain prominent member here giving me amazing deals when I told him that the item was too cheap, (just because he is cool and well-off), the bottom line is that it is none of your business. Unless it is your business.

End of rant.

"Let me guess Souk, your PM was $450 or so?"

You're not the Parts Price Police. It's a free market. When one puts a part up for sale, there's no such thing as a negative "low ball offer." An offer is an offer. The seller can take it or not.

Everyone here is a big boy and can sell their stuff just fine without your unsolicited advice/butting-in, IMO. I'm pretty sure the world will go on without you monitoring the Classifieds to make sure that sellers get what in your estimation is FMV for the parts they are selling.

If you believed Souk's offer was too low, and you wanted it for $1500, why would you not just have e-mailed the seller and said you'd taken it for $1500??? You could have accomplished so much that way. You could have fulfilled your duty as the apparently self-appointed Price Police by personally making sure the seller got what you believe the part was worth. You would have had the smug satisfaction of foiling Souk's horrible, evil "low ball" scheme single handedly! And you could have done all of that without coming across as a guy who initiates an attack and can't mind his own business.

Seems like that would have been a win/win.
Guys, I appreciate the thought that went into your posts, but SoCal, here's the problem. My first and Souk's prior one have been deleted.

My first post was "what is this worth, $1500" which I will 100% agree now should not have been done publicly.

What you guys don't see is Souk's post right after it basically calling me an idiot for thinking the tail was worth as much as $1500 and that I was trying to jack the price up of the tail. It's that post that is the "missing link." I did not attack Souk.

it was after Ubiquity posted that we saw that tails like this are in the $2500+ range.

Guys, again, the my post was only to establish a value. It was Souk's that created this whole thing, and yes, given Souk's estimate that a good 3.2 is worth $1500, I did post the $450 remark.

If you saw the original posts, you would come away with a different conclusion.

Point well taken, but in my first post I thought I was helping a fellow out. That was my goal, to establish some kind of price range. when someone posts a rare ducktail as a turbo tail, I think to myself, this guy is going to get taken. I don't like getting taken, have been and it sucks. Maybe I take this whole community thing too serious. Jesus Christ, I guess so. Should I have PM'd the guy and told him this versus my post on the thread. Sure looks that way. Won't make that mistake again and won't post unless someone is requesting an opinion in their post, much like 3.2 post.

I can take my lumps on that one.

What bothers me is Souk's lack of integrity. When he says he's got stories of guys I've screwed, and I ask over and over again who they are, and get no response, that speaks volumes.

Shaun offering your opinion of value when unsolicted was a no no...stepping in on a deal is like stepping in between a man and wife during an arguement... and Shaun I don't know what to make of your continued defense of an undefensable position..

Souk if you make an accusation of Shaun's screwing sombeody...you better have your facts and figures ready to present...because I'd want to know them....simply my reputation is on the line....and if you can't present them...then your mine.....

Aside from the character assassination and name calling -- which is pretty much coming from one side, it seems -- there is an underlying disconnect here.

Are we a community or not? If somebody puts in his post that he's short of money and puts a mis-described item up for sale, a community would step in to help. An average joe from the "swap meet crowd" would just do the deal and walk off.

I guess some of us see this place differently than others.

Thanks. On continuing to defend my position. I thought I was doing good. Clearly I wasn't. Simple as that.

Shaun your posts tended to sound a bit shrill...denoting defensiveness.....a simple...."I feel differently but I stand corrected and it won't happen again" post would have suficed...

Your "simple as that" statement in your last post denotes curtness...LOL.....

LOL!

Shrill, yes, I suppose I would be if a lot of people were attacking me and making accusations without backing them up.

Tabs, the tough pill to swallow here is the missing first 2 posts in the original thread as evidenced by people's perception of the situation.

But the really tough pill is I do think of Pelican as a community, not a flea market. My personal philosophy on life is look out for the guy next to you.

Hey are we going to get together while I'm in Vegas?
