Filled up this AM at $3.06. At 6PM, $3.36 at the same station!

A ten percent increase in 8 hours?

At least the line for the pump got shorter in the afternoon.

We saw some of this after the '94 quake, when a gallon of water was $5 some places...

Maybe when he's done he could find time to get some water dropped to some thirsty Americans.

Ok, I've had it. Do you guys really not know how gas pricing at the pump works? It is priced at replacement cost plus magin. You know, like every other business???? Commodities are fluid so this changes all the time. Go down and buy a couple bars of gold at the price they paid for it 2 years ago

Good grief we need better schools.

I even heard a congressmen speak this same rubbish today, I was embarrassed for him.

Basics of how gasoline is produced, priced, distributed, etc in California. http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/gasoline_q-and-a.html

Premium was $2.97 a week ago at the Arco nearby, today it was $3.17, less of a jump than I had feared - wait 'till he gets his next delivery, I guess. Of course, last week I paid the $0.06 extra for the Shell across the street - I think Arco's not good gasoline - and this week I went for the cheaper Arco rather than $3.23 at Shell.

Almost all of our gasoline is refined in-state, so I'd hope the shut-down Gulf Coast refineries won't affect us too much. Of course we'd feel the roughly 10% jump in crude oil over the past week or so.

I'm sorry to admit it, but my wife and I are keeping our cars above 3/4 full now. With the price rising, I want to replace each gallon of gasoline as early as possible.

[sigh]

The middle east doesn't send us gas, they send us oil.

I don't mean to pick on you or anyone else really as ignorance is widespread. But that's the problem, how is it you guys don't know this stuff? I didn't look for the info, so did you avoid it? I mean Tech is a smart guy, how can he not understand either? I really don't get it.

Maybe I assume too much? This could really explain our communication gaps on other subjects as well.

2. the middle east does not send us gas.

If Canada does refine all its own fuel(I doubt it) we in America are still out 10% of ours. Therefore competition for the product of remaining refineries in North America will increase resulting in higher prices and supply going to the highest bidders (The U.S. no doubt). That's just my common sense theory based on economics and I could be wrong.
