Its ok, I don't either. Don't really want one either. So many other things you can use for music. I on the other hand have a satellite radio so that makes up for the lack of ipod music.

Me neither. Am waiting for the iPod that will tune my Fuel Injection chips on the fly as well as TV and DVD.

Step away from the TV - and put down that Fast and Furious DVD.

I keep feeling like I want an ipod - I just don't have a use for one.

I don't feel the need to carry around my entire music collection with me at all times.

Personally I won't own an Ipod, there are plenty of other similar products out there. If you have a PC the software may be testy with the PC.

I'd prefer something that's not proprietary. Shop around. Otherwise, it's pretty darn cool to be able to carry 1000 songs on something the size or smaller than a pack of playing cards.

They're not really proprietary, any more than other consumer electronic devices are. You can still play mp3 or encoded aac files, both of which are very open compared to the wma standards.

The iPod Shuffle and Nano are both very price-competitive with other brands.

I had a 20GB iPod hooked up to my PC. Never had problems, until the battery started spazzing...not a software fault.

I got a 6GB iPod Mini with my Powerbook, since they were giving them away. I like it even better. Great battery life, works beautifully, and is really small.

For portable music, it comes down to that or carrying around a bunch of CDs. Over headphones, the sound quality of digital music vs CD really doesnt matter unless you buy Bose or other high-end headphones.

You may not want your enitre collection with you, but choice is always a good thing. The iPod really doesn't have major compromises, unless you're a DJ and have enough music to more than fill the biggest iPod.

I didn't want a ipod until I took a road trip with a lady friend that had one and it was much nicer than I expected...

I though I would get one until after some research I found:

My home computer is too old to be compatible (okay I could but a firewire card but it would be more cost effective to get a newer faster computer).

And the cost of the darn things! ($200-$300).

Maybe after I get a new home computer and the prices come down a little.

Oh and for most of the trip I drove and she was playing DJ "listen to this song... no wait... listen to THIS song..." rather annoying however I do like the programmability of it, if I were driving by myself.

Funny we took a recent trip together and she forgot it, I was heartbroken.

Are there car (or home) radios that interface with the ipod? What I mean is, will the UI translate over to the radio display? That would be nice.

Also, if I by a unit I'll want the option to use a standard external memory card (preferably SD) and not just canned internal mem.

My friend had one of those cassette interface things, I didn't expect it to work very well but it did. Honesty the sound quality was as good or better than your typical car radio/cassette/CD player (I was very skeptical of the whole setup).

A few years back I saw In dash stereos that had hard drives built into them, did those get phased out in favor of the ipod (and like devices)?

Why would I get one when I have a 1GB mp3 player for $79 and I've had it for a year! It's the size of the smallest IPOD.

My Lifedrive runs video, music and does most of what my laptop can do.

i got an ipod last year because it was time to upgrade. I got my first MP3 player 6 years ago- 64 MB for $400. The ipods are a steal compared to that

I refuse to drink the Mac cool-aid . There are equally functional devices out there plus they won't make me use the cursed ITunes. I'm looking for an integrated blackberry/mp3/phone/data storage device.

Palm Treo 650 with a 2GB memory card. Early next year Blackberry service will start for the Treo 650. It's bluetooth and you can get a Wifi cradle for it.

I wasn't really looking for an iPod... just an MP3 player.

My 60gb iPod (not video) was $320. As far as I could find there were no competitive mp3 players at that price at the time. The closest match at $350 had 30gb storage & the interface was a pain.

I find iTunes software to be fine on PC, its just the iTunes music store that I can't stand (as its virtually impossible to transfer the songs purchased onto a CD). I get around that by not buying anything from iTunes. Its always cheaper to buy actual CDs from amazon or ebay

Walmart.com is $.88 per song and further discounted for an entire album.
