Talking Bad Beer Appreciation thread

I gave two coworkers six packs of Koch's Golden Anniversary. A 6'er of 'Golden Annie' is $2.61 at the local drugstore.

I think this is the worst beer we have found yet. Way worse than Genny cream or natty light.

Makes PBR (which I find to be an acceptable swill) seem like Dogfish 60 minute IPA by comparison.

I know the cheap bad beer thing is very hip. What's the worst or most ridiculous you've had?

Hamm's was pretty bad in the 70's. Not sure if it's even still made.

FWIW, I really hate Sam Adams.

Are you kidding. I don't really drink anymore, but when I did, Natty Light was good stuff from the bottle. It was like drinking water. Real easy drinking and cheap unlike some of the other beers that are not easy to drink.

The worst I've ever had... Once when I was in college my roommate came home one day with a case (24) of Schafer beer. He said it had been $5.24 at Publix with a $5 mail in rebate. We each drank half a beer and threw the rest out. It was that bad.

I won't count the rotten beer that I spit out at "Nickel Beer Night" at that bar by college. I think that was from a bunch of kegs that had sat in the sun for a month or something. I'm not sure it was technically beer any more because it was so bad.

Rheinlander. Once respectable, co-opted by Rainier brewing to sell the stuff they wouldn't put their name on. In the 80's it was only available in quarts. 37 cents.

When I was in school the local tavern had dollar pitcher night on Thursdays. Rhinelander was the swill. We drank A LOT of it.

Schaefer, Meisterbrau, Brew 102. I'd say Lucky Lager, but at least it had the puzzles under the bottle caps.

Natural Light, high schooler's beer of choice. My underage beer tastes tended towards Milwalkee's Best Light, because it was under $10 for a 30 pack. After the first three is didn't taste too bad, but it was prone to giving nasty cases of the beer $hits the next day. Easily the worst I ever had was some crap called the Eagle, only came in 40s. I don't know what it was, beer, malt liquor, goat piss, but it was $.75 for a 40, and according to the crazy half mexican drug dealer that used to buy us beer in our younger years, "That $hit will fuuuuuuuuck youuuuuu uuuuuuuup." Good times. Too bad he got thrown in jail for selling pot by a school and trying to fight a cop, I believe with a samurai sword.

There is a very popular bar in St. Louis called 'Tin Can'.

They serve every kind of canned beer you would like to forget. Most are about $1.

Come on down if you want to lay your hands on an ice cold Olympia - Red White & Blue - Black Label - Stag - you get the idea.

In college there was a can of Olympia in my fridge for 3 years. Since I only lived in that apartment 2 years, it was sort of a mystery.

Anybody had King Cobra malt liquor? It was exactly $1.87/sixer (incl tax) at the local Grub Kitty (aka Food Lion).

Bite your tongue!!! One of my all time favorites - if you're talking about the staple SA Lager. MMmmmmmmMMMMmMMMMMMM, malty going down, hoppy burping it back up, what other beer pulls off such a successful dichotomy. Now some of the seasonals Koch puts out I can do without....

The worst I have ever had was Lowenbrau in Africa. It is made locally under license, and tastes nothing like the stuff in America.

I've also had San Miguel in the Philippines. I found it horrible at first, but after a while you get used to it. The bottle reads, "The only beer that nourishes true Filipino friendships." Yep... everyone's your friend when you're blitzed. When I came home I found myself missing it.

Just went to their website and was amazed that they are one of the top 15 selling beers in the world.

I don't know what the difference was, but the rule amongst us was that if the bottle had a paper label, not to buy it - only the bottles with the painted labels. If any of you have had it, maybe you can enlighten me.

I was in the Philippines during the early 70's...
San Miguel was about 14 cents a bottle just about
anywhere in Olongopo. The worst beer I ever had came
out of Thailand. I do not remember the name but
I swear they got the brown color by soaking the
beer in old cigarette butts ! I sure tasted like it !

Black Lable. . . and the generic beer that just said "Beer."

What about Billy beer? I never had it, but it reeks of badness.

SA Light is great for light beer, if you're like me and can't afford to buy new pants.

Billy looks like he's had a few too many.
