Anyoe know how to disassemble a u-joint??

It looks kind of like this:

Except it doesn't have those two bolts that are shown partly backed out in the picture. Instead, it is a solid piece like the other half in the picture.

So the only way to disassemble it seems to be to remove the circlips on one of them and drive the "cross" out.

Does that seem right? And if so, does it matter which of the four sides I drive out?

Do I just drive it out with something that fits in there (I'm thinking a socket), and then just drive it back in the other way to reassemble?

You've got the right idea, using a pair of sockets and a vise or sturdy C-clamp, drive the cross all the way out one side, remove that bearing cup, then use a slightly smaller socket on the greasy stub and flip the whole operation around to drive the other cup out.

Once you get the first bearing cup off, it'll be clear how to procede.

Yeah, have fun with that. It's especially nice when the cup falls on the ground, and all the needle bearings fall out. Then you have to clean it all because they're full of dirt, that is if you can find them all. But if you're replacing it, I guess it doesn't matter, that happened to me when pulling a driveshaft to fix something else.
