+1

PS - Porsche-o-phile, if you want to protect your cat, keep it on YOUR PROPERTY!!! If I hit it, I might do you the favor of backing back over it just to make sure it doesn't suffer...

Yup. If I'm unfortunate enough to hit your cat (or dog or whatever) that you are too irresponsible to contain, and it damages my car in any way, I will come looking for you. You will pay restitution and will probably be reported to the police to boot. I ride a motorcycle as well, so I am particularly sensitive to loose animals in the road. Many riding friends have hit them and gone down.

Jeff' famous cat killer load: .45-70 loaded with 420 grain Lymann #457193 cast from pure lead. Just enough Unique (usually about 5-8 grains depending on the particular rifle) to get it out of the barrel. Usually does about 300 fps or so. Quieter than an air rifle, much less a .22, and FAR more effective at taming stray cats. Or possums, racoons, or any other stray, ferrel, or wild pests that happen to piss me off.

It is, by the way, great redneck fun sitting on the back porch late at night. Beer in hand, spotlight in the other, rifle at the ready. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

And you seem to value the life of a cat over the life of an unborn human. People in glass houses man...

Ouch! good job Nate's dad!

While I realize pets can become family members to many, I think anyone who would wreck a new car to avoid hitting a cat in the road is taking it a WAY too far.

That is the problem--you don't know what your cat is doing while "roaming" about.

I had a cat regularly tearing up my garbage when set out for pick-up--the cat's owner didn't have to deal with the mess--I did, untill I waited on 2 consecutive pick-up weeks with a Crossman airgun--after the second ping with a BB I never saw the cat again.

Did the same in another neighborhood where a cat regularly took naps on the hood of my 951--whenever I got close with the hose, the thing would run, 1 shot with about 5 pumps from the deck--never had a problem again.

The murder of the unborn is different. If you can't see it, but you know it is there, it is okay to suck it into pieces or dice it with a scalple, or suck its brains out...It is all about the gray areas.

Hardly. Yes I do value the life of a cat over a fetus - so what? A cat or other animal is a living breathing self-aware independent being. A fetus isn't. Seems pretty simple to me. You guys are the ones rationalizing the killing, not me. You only validate my point by claiming to be "pro life" but glorifying killing of a nuisance animal for *****s and giggles.

The shameless lack of respect for other living things here is just insane. Any excuse to "go shootin'" or get to stroke one's ego or feel self-important by killing/torturing something smaller and more defenseless than onesself I guess. Very noble. Must make "y'all" feel very tough and very big. Why stop there though? Why not start kicking the neighborhood dogs and pulling the wings off of butterflies while you're at it? Go skin a few cats alive for amusement. Maybe tie some bricks around some kittens and drop 'em off of bridges. Good fun, right? Maybe you can find some puppies to rip apart with your bare hands. I'm sure that'll appeal to the macho/tough-guy aspect of some on here.

That's about the level of maturity and respect for other living things I'm seeing in this thread. Before accusing ME of being insensitive, look in the mirror.

Lighten up, Francis.

I just can't get real excited about shooting a stray cat that's causing problems. People who care for their pets don't let them run wild and cause problems with others' pets or property. Call the pound and the cat would probably be euthanized anyway. What difference does it make whether YOU shoot it or the dog catcher gasses it? It's just as dead and doesn't suffer much, if at all.

I'm not a big cat fan. Here at the shop we constantly have to deal with stray cats. I have a neighbor that feeds the strays plus we have some volenteer org. that feeds them all the time no matter how often they are told to stop. They crap all over the parking lot and in the summer the smell gets outragous. The shop next to me lost a lucrative insurance contract when a stray crawled in an open car and had kittens. When they discovered the litter they removed them but failed to discover the one that died under the front seat. A couple weeks after the car was returned to the owner the dead animal was found and a complaint was filed with the insurance company.
If your a cat lover I'd suggest you don't bother to follow this link to an mpeg file If you have a sense of humour and want to see a cute commercial where a cat is injured(simulated) click it.
Don't say you weren't warned.

Funny, I have returned far more stray animals to their owners than I have shot. I can sympathize with a responsible pet owner who's pet has somehow gotten out. It happens to everyone. If, however, it turns into a repeat offender in spite of bringing it back to its owner, and discussing the problem with its owner, it's dead. If it's a stray that keeps showing up and I can't identify its owner, it's dead. While I certainly do not enjoy killing things, I will just as certainly not pussyfoot around a problem for very long.

Sorry Jeff, but this way of definitively dealing with this problem does not make any of us some kind of twisted abuser of small animals as you would like to believe. Irresponsible owners like you are far more cruel, and allow for far more suffering of small animals than we do. How many squirrels, birds, and what not does your cat kill for fun while it is out and about? How many cats does your little tough guy tear up, often in their own yards? You seem to have a very naive view at best as to what your kitties do when they are out.

So it would be safe to assume you do not eat chicken, fish, cow or pig then right?

I wonder if flies and mosquitoes qualify for your definition of living things? I hope you dont strike any of these with your car as they are living things that humans should have great respect for

This reminds me, I need to mount my new Surefire flashlight to my AR as it is becoming prime varmint time where I live.

Might be a better solution than the ones proposed here. A bit sappy, but seems like a good organization.
