Who all is getting these stock tip emails?

They come almost every day, sometimes multiples in one day. Always in a shaded box, always from a different author and always a different subject. No way to trace them and no links (like I'd click on one anyway).

Well, for grins and giggles, I tracked the last one. Basically a penny stock that doubled in one day!! What's going on? I'm lame when it comes to investments. Is this a simple case of stock manipulation? If so, won't the SEC go after them?

Oh, and the trading volume was really high after a very lackluster performance prior to the "tip." .What IS going on?

Damn Zeke, maybe this means there really are "hot chicks in my area waiting to do me" and nigerians that want to be nice to me. I get those stock alerts/hot tips too, never checked out the stocks, though. It would be interesting to see how they track.

Well, I have been deleting them and then cleaning my deleted box. So I can't go back and look at any charts. But come Monday, I'm gonna check out the ol' China Pharm stock and see if it hits their target.

Now wouldn't that be a crock? Go buy 10K worth of penny stock and sell in less than a week and go buy a nice 911 with cash.

Come on, you guys are smarter than I am, what's the catch? I mean the stock IS listed on the board. It isn't some over-the-counter stuff. I didn't follow any links, I went straight to Yahoo stocks.

Zeke...Look up "Boiler Rooms" . I can't recall the movie about the activity, but if hype can increase demand for a low cost stock and you as the "promoter" were smart enough to own a bunch, then when the demand drives the stock up, say, 100%, then you happily sell yours off and everyone else is stuck with something no one really wants. And YOU are the one that goes out and buys that nice 911!!

While I portray myself as an investment numbskull, I can understand that principle. I thought I alluded to that in my opening post. Let's cut from the elementary school analysis (I'm not flaming, I'm saying this straight and politely) and get down to it.

If this works, why isn't everyone doing it? This ***** has been going on too long for someone not to notice. Again, what's going on here?

Bob, the movie about boiler rooms is called... wait for it... Boiler Room.

It's kind of a Gen-X Glengarry Glen Ross.

But your point is well made. The penny stock pushers (and yes, I'm on the damn lists, too) get to people who see it as a kind of lottery. They'll throw in a couple of bucks and maybe 100 other people will get excited too, and the stock will go up. Of course they'll lose money on the deal because the increase won't offset the commissions... but it's all just Vegas, baaybee.

One favorite trick of market scammers is to pick a list of hundreds of stocks...then 3 moons later, they tout their skill by documenting & only talking of the winners. These penny stock emails? They are PUSHING a stock...with no sound financial reasoning behind the push...no real market research. But in penny stocks? Push by sending a few thousand emails, or more. If even a few hundred buy the stock "expected to explode" because of info mailed to them by somebody they never heard of? Whoopie! The price might go up a penny or so, and the one who sent the email makes a killing. Whenever I get unsolicited market advice? It's ignored, regardless of whether it arrives here electronically or snail mail.

Those spams are illegal, by the way. They violate multiple federal laws.

Are you kidding, I get them and buy everyone. I'm making a killing. The red CGT will be in next Wed, and the blue one will be in the Wed after that. It's not about compensating for a small penis, because I got some pills that an email tipped me off to that have made it quadruple in size and it stays hard for 3 and a half hours (because of course if it lasts for 4 hours you should see a doctor).

The only thing it's good for is drawing attention to the stock market for the average joe. The potential for a serious liquidity shift from housing and the bond market in the stock market is huge. Don't forget the whole economic world is experiencing growth at the same time. Also don't forget that the serious buyers of our long term debt is not doing it to do us any favors. They want to protect their capital in the most efficient way possible. As this debt flow slows in the near future investor capital will be searching for another haven.

The difference of opinions on where it will go to be efficient creates markets. Economics is a living progressive animal growing exponentially that can mask the US morph from an industrial economy into another model. The current stock market may be predicting the future?

A lot of these emails come out of tententwelvecorp.com. The site has been shut down but there are bots set up to keep sending emails. The worst is getting "joe Jobbed". This is where they use your dot com as the return address but change the prefix to nonsense, like xyz@pelicanparts.com.

Yes this is illegal but it is hard to enforce, especially when it becomes international. You can complain to the FTC and send copies of the spam to spam@uce.gov but it probably will do no good.

Here's a
link to some current discussions on the problem.

I'm getting them too. 3 or 4 a day for the past several weeks or so. Now it is obvious where these low life scum found my e-mail address. Either on this board or on Rennlist.

Wayne, is it possible for these scum to get our e-mail addresses here?

What they stupid a$$ idiots don't realze is that no one pays attention to their spam crap and it just gets deleted so why bother?
Some day one of these POS will need help from me, again i say.... why bother?

Gentlemen, thank you for the discussion and enlightenment of "what's going on." I fully understood now and, yes, I did see tententweleve at one point. I think there was even an "opt out" message. Hah!

Bots. Don't know much about those, have heard the term, and it's pretty much self explanatory.

Mas, that was pretty funny albeit a little trite.

And I especially appreciate the substantiation that this is all totally illegal as I was convinced on my own. But, I'm not a day trader, I'm not even a trader, so it's great to check in with you guys and compare notes.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has wondered about this. So, the explanation of the current game is much appreciated. Particularly without snide.

"I'm getting them too. I set up my mail client to dump them automatically." I use OE, can I do that too?

Anything a broker "pushes" or "suggests", I do the opposite - or nothing at all. I've never lost money that way either.

As far as where these cretins got our emails? Sadly, I suspect here. I quit posting on Rennlist when they began charging to post...
