looked like a classic two wheels off then snap back across when the driver tried to yank it back on.

The organizers should pay out of pocket for the cars. Insane to grid in that position.

Just watched with sound the driver of the car with the camera is an idiot. I do not agree with banning them from track days but you have to wonder about their unwillingness to listen to their instructor. It was obvious that the instructor was getting pissed at the driver for not getting back on the track, even reaching for the wheel and turning it.

If your out there just to get internet video footage stay home.

Still, this is a minor incident compared to the decision to place cars right next to a hot track.

I don't agree at all.

While it wasn't a particularly smart thing to pull off where he did, this would have been a full track red flag situation. The instructor's impulse to go back to the track made little sense. On the basis of not following the instructor's directions, he/she should get a slap on the wrist.

I don't agree at all..

He pulled off the track for the specific purpose of getting the carnage on tape. He should have never pulled off to begin with and should have safely and slowly drove by the accident and followed the instructions given at the next flag station.

His instructor was very pissed and he faded out the sound and brought up music to drown it out. The music sucks too BTW.

He did not need to be parked there and was in the way of emergancy vehicles as well.

No, he should not be banned but he sure is an A-hole.

I was almost in a 6 car pile up on a track because the first car coming up on a Ferrari wreck decided to stop and look. Everyone behind (we were coming out of a blind corner) had to drive off the track to keep from hitting the rubber necker on the track. You do not stop to spectate you drive by carefully and follow the instructions from the next flagman.

Rubberneckers on the freeway are bad enough. They have no place on the track. Keep going and stay the hell out of the way. Above all, the novice should have listened to the instructor. I don't think his actions warrent getting banned, but some one does need to make that clear.

I don't know anything about track etiquette, but the instructor in the video didn't seem too terribly pissed about the whole situation to me. She did try to make him turn the wheel a few times, but she turned it away from the track just as much as she turned it towards the track.

If you look at the petition and the statements after the signatures it seems this guy made a lot of enemies on an online forum who are piling on to get him banned...

I guess I look at it this way: It was clearly a red flag situation and he pulled off the track and stopped immediately. I don't think that is worth getting banned for. I thought the instructor was yelling about the accident, not stopping.

I didn't see a flag...not sure where the closest station was. If I was in this situation, I would slow down (assume a yellow) until I got to a flag. In the absence of a flag, unless you're going to crash into something, I have been taught to *not* stop on the track. People go off track not infrequently. Whether they just go into the weeds or go into the weeds and smack a couple parked cars, there is no difference (unless there is a fire perhaps). You slow down and keep going depending on the corner workers to inform you.

Was it a Black Audi?

He should be banned on those grounds alone.

Shoot. Had I saw that accident I would have slammed the brakes on hard, got out of my car, pulled off my helmet, stepped out of the way of the car that slammed into mine from behind, told the instructerette to shut up, grabbed my camera out of my wreck and then got it all on video.

Hell ya!...ricers solidarity!...power to the ricer!

It was clearly Clinton's fault.

Todd,
I looked at it again, and I'm not sure about that. If you look at the skid marks they start at the leftmost edge of the track (I think).

The guy was a lousy NOVICE guys. Some of youse guys sound just like a Gruppe we know. Even if he's pointing at the accident to get a "shot", at least he's off track. And given the general attraction of others' misfortune that everyone in this country takes, it's understandable why he sat and stared (maybe even laughed).

I had a really bad experience with a poorly organized and managed track event once and had the "nerve" to tell people about it, which earned me personal threats from some members of the organization. Oddly enough, no one disputed the facts. They were just angry that I would comment on them.

Lots of people have major difficulty separating the messenger and the message.

From the comments on the audi board, a couple suggested that he put two wheels off. That is the classic mistake and resulting snap back. But who knows...seems that AWD cars get interesting once they break loose. I've seen a lot of bunged up ones at Willow, some flipping end over end after putting two off in 9 then snapping back to the infield.

Do you guys think the proper thing would have been for him to stop on track? The cars were all off the track and there was no debris on track. I would think you assume yellow but keep going, probably off the racing line, until you get to a flag station. To stop if there is no red flag out is asking to get whacked from behind.

The iflysolo driver is wrong, but he didn't cause the carnage...just had an improper response to it, and more importantly, didn't listen to his instructor. But he's the first person to not listen to an instructor?!?

That is why he has an instructor. Not just to help him with his driving, but to lend her experience and guidance when things go wrong; either with him and his car, or with some one else. His actions may have been more justifiable had he not had an instructor telling him, apparently very clearly and with some emphasis, to keep going.

He should have never been off the track to begin with. He should have driven by and looked for the next flag station for further instruction. Its that simple, that is what you are taught in the classroom at a driving school (well, the ones I attend) and what the flag worker explains to you at the drivers meeting in the morning. (at least to the ones that bother to attend)

It takes a lot to reach across and grab someone elses sterring wheel. That would be enough to get my attention and snap in shape. I would love to hear the audio of what she says to him when he is ignoring her and driving up to the accident.

She turns his wheel away from the track at first because he is right next to a still hot track. They are in a lot of danger being so close and sitting still. Then she turns him away from the wreck in a effort to get him to move on.

I, at first felt the Audiworld guys were overreacting and I still do, but I understand their discust in this guy.

He may have been rattled seeing a buddy plow into all those cars. He looks like it may have been his first event - from my estimation, they weren't going very fast. And he's not very good.

If it *was* his first event he may have, in fact, been there just for the footage. I have done several events and I still don't have a camera.

Anyhow, he clearly was wrong and wasn't thinking. Look at all the other cars go by on the track.

Psssaw! How many of have had g/f's or wives do that? I've even had and instructor do it to me, but I've never done it to a student.

I, at first felt the Audiworld guys were overreacting and I still do, but I understand their discust in this guy.

I still think they're overreacting, but like my previous analogy, they're beating up on the guy because he captured/posted the vid. I've seen this "outrage" before. A few years ago, someone captured a VW dragstrip mishap (from the stands) and posted the vid, and there was an uproar on the net and they made him take it down. It wasn't even a bad accident - the bug was dented pretty good, but the driver was unscathed, but that didn't stop his buddies from being 'offended' by it.

The BAW contingent would have found a way to fault this guy even if he had taken the video from LandSat 1
