Well I've never SEEN the mole. It's just that we really don't have a lot of chipmunks around our place. The poison I've been using are those pellets. I'll try that Talpirid.

That radio idea sounds interesting.....

UPDATE: Last night I ran a hose down the hole and turned on the water but he never came out. So it probably wasn't in there. This morning there was a new mound of dirt. What's scary is it's under the driveway and I got to get him before he undermines the concrete. So today I'm picking up the smoke bombs locally and that Talpirid if possible otherwise I'll order it.

If you urinate or defecate(you don't have to squat in the yard, upsets the neighbors) it will discourage him some.gassing him with the car exhaust would work well.

My father in law had a little pit bull that took care of all his mole, snake, rabbit etc problems. He frequently had one or two or seven sitting on his front porch when he got home(Moles, not pit bulls)

Some of the best anti-rodent dogs are Jack Russell Terriers. There's another one called a Rat Terrier which should do the job as well. Now that I think about it, I might get one of those for the same work here.

Someone told my wife to put used litter from the cat box in the tunnel...sounded like a good idea. We're trying the Talprid right now but so far they have not taken the bait. That stuff is quite spendy @ $37.50 for ten...at least where we live.

If the mole is tripping your (scissor trap I'm guessing) trap and you are not netting any moles, then you need to set your trap an inch or two lower than you have been.

Diazinon in granular form, not spray works pretty well. Kills the grubs which they are hunting for and they hate the taste and smell of the soil.

As I understand it their primary diet is earthworms...not grubs. Likely the diazinon would kill the worm too...not good.

We've tried Mole Med (castor oil extract) many times but it does not solve the problem. We may next try the transistor radio idea mentioned on the lawn care forum mentioned above if the Talprid continues to fail.

Do you have any friends or family that own a dog you could borrow for a day or two?

When I had dogs the neighbors had gophers but I didn't.

I won my last mole war by gassing the critters in their burrows.

step 1 trace where all their runs are(easily accomplished from the mounds

step2 collect at least 4(more is better) sticks that produce cyanide gas when lit. You will also need covers when you place them in the burrows, I used rectangular patio blocks. A small spade is also useful

step3 using the spade carefully uncover the burrows at the outer most perimeter, remember at least 4 sides, 4 perimeter and 4 more central is better.

step4 light, drop, cover. Simultaneous drops are best but done quickly in sequence works too.

optional depending on relationship w/ neighbors chose a day when the wind is blowing in the direction you want any excess gas to blow.

We have a Jack Russell and a Rat Terrier. No Moles, squirels, snakes, etc. Just a back yard full of holes.

Be sure to kill the grubs in the yard, that's what the moles are attracted to. Get rid of the food source and they'll leave!

And here I thought my dog was unique. My one year old Golden Retriever can actually out-dig a mole. Think clam digging, but in my back yard, for moles. She has caught several. One as I watched; boy was the dirt flying. Unfortunately, the yard has started to look like the surface of the moon. I think I might rather have the moles...

I had a gopher tearing up the back lawn -really- bad. The "gopher gasser" smokebombs didn't do the trick. I flooded his tunnels several times and one did the trick - he came out for air and I pumped him deader n' dead with 8 shots from a CO2 pellet gun.
