Bumpkey.. can this be true?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Uv45y6vkcQ&search=bump%20key
Time for a new lock to be developed if this is true.

New to me, but scary. What happened to the good old days of breaking a window, at least then your insurance co wouldn't suspect you of fraud.

Okay, I've been reading about this as well and I am very unhappy about it. So what kinds of locks are not vulnerable to the bump key?

With everything going on in the world, do you really need a "society of lock pickers" who do the grunt work for thieves? What, are the funded by the Thieves Union? Sure, locks are easy for most thieves to break into to, but do we need the Heroin addicted teenager searching the web down the road to find out more information to break into your home?

Here's some more info, including I think a reference or two to lock types that aren't susceptible.
What I'm really curious abou is if this works on cars. It'll revolutionize the car theft industry.

Friggin' insurance companies are probably the ones promoting this and encouraging the dissemination of this knowledge for exactly that reason. . .

This is nothing new. The only difference is the bumpkey is low tech. This is the same principle.
http://www.lockpickshop.com/p-LAT-17.html ![]() I'm not sure about modern Porsches, but my 914 and my old 911, the locks do not use split-pin type tumblers, so it will not work with them.

Indeed not "really" new, I have been picking locks for 8 years with a conventional set and passed on the electric "auto pick" at that time as it wasn't as interesting. An electric pick works immediately as well.
Most people are shocked when I show them how easy it is to pick a padlock, it's really a joke.
