WASHINGTON

A group of House Republicans called Wednesday for a congressional investigation into the improper handling of classified documents by President Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy Berger.

Berger admitted last year that he deliberately took classified documents out of the National Archives in 2003 and destroyed some of them at his office. He pleaded guilty... Sandy Burglers Socks

no sign of trying to distract us from the Foley page scandal here. Just an honest inquiry by the leadership into a matter that was resolved three years ago. Yup.

The Republicans (and Hastert in particular) must be absolutely THRILLED that the North Koreans decided on now to test an atomic bomb - and in a twisted way that Cory Lidle's plane crashed yesterday. It's all about making sure that Foley remains on Page #3 or lower and that other stuff - ANY other stuff - gets onto Page 1 and Page 2.

American politics is the epitome of sleaze. It's truly sad that such a revolutionary governmental model has sunk to such depths in 200 years.

This does make me angry. This was a serious problem and it was ignored for several years. now it appears to be brought up to make an attempt at political gain.

However, as tragic as a single person using his position of power to engage in inappropriate contact with underlings and minors may be, it pales by comparison to a former high offcial stealing documents to protect another former high official.

Hmmm... let's see, Foley text messages suggestive notes to a congressional page. Dems jump on it as THE election year issue. Republicans finally decide to get to the bottom of a former National Security Advisor stealing classified documents from the National Archives and subsequently destroying some of them. And Dems see that as a distraction from their "REAL" issue? It just keeps getting better...

you guys have no clue. the Bush administration has been a clusterfuch for 6 years and it might bite the GOP candidates this mid-term election. All this other stuff is fluff/sleaze. Give it a rest and start talking about serious issues that haven't been accomplished, or have been screwed up during the 6 years of GOP control over all branches of gov't. Us moderates hope to slaughter/bury your sacred cows this November.

Sandy Berger was investigated, Tried and convicted. This isn't an outstanding scandal. Its not like it has been actively covered up to avoid investigating or convicting the guy. For this matter, why don't the reopen the Jim case of Jim wright? It has as much relavence.

Was exposing the Foley activites a blatent political move? Yes. Does it make what Foley did or any of the attempts in the leadership to avoid dealing with the issue right? Of course not. Just the same, we seem to have a double standard in place that allows the republicans to apply any dirty political trick, but to act as if any democratic party stunt as beyond tha pale.

We've gone from the classic,

"It's not the crime it's the coverup,"

to the modern version,

"It's not the crime, or the coverup, it's the scumbags who control the information and time its release for political gain."

"When initially questioned, Berger claimed that the removal of top-secret documents in his attache-case and handwritten notes in his jacket and pants pockets was accidental. He later, in a guilty plea, admitted to deliberately removing materials and then cutting them up with scissors"

I'm afraid this is a much much much bigger story than its' coverage would reveal. Seriously, read the above quote and tell me it's no big deal.

No hearings on the conduct of the war in Iraq, but they are scheduing hearings on a CLOSED criminal case?

A criminal case prosecuted by the BUSH JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, and resolved according to the BUSH JUSTICE DEPARTMENT'S PLEA AGREEMENT?

What a joke.

On America.

They won't investigate Bush handling of the war involving hundreds of thousands of casualties and a trillion dollars, but they want to investigate Bush's plea agreement with Sandy Berger involving probation?

This Congress could not be more lame.

Republicans have become the biggest finger-pointing wussies in the history of our republic. Nothing, absoulutely nothing, is their fault.

The party of personal responsibility is a circus act.

It's not my fault, that's all I know.

My staff might be responsible, and I'm calling for an investigation of what my wife knew, and when.

I just want to reiterate, I do take full responsibility, although it's not my fault.
