PS in that last photo of the Comp motors locations is that the future home of Victory P&A in the 80's? I'm sure Dave B would know..
Mark, The third picture with the marquee that says, Jack McAfee Motors is definitely the future Allen VW and later Victory Porsche Audi. 825 N Victory Blvd. Show that shot to Scott Call and see what he says. |

the sunset shot of the jack mcafee showroom is what eventually became mcafee motors with the porsche dealership. The building is still there today on victory south of burbank blvd (as a uesed car dealership). It became Allan Porsche, then Victory Porsche for a few years, then closed when the big shake out of dealers happened during the Peter Shutz reign as head of porsche.
jack mcafee also had a small building on burbank blvd, where koni shocks, stebro exhaust, and all other manner of imported parts were sold from. I remember the koni shock dyno to test the shocks there. Davy Palmer was the head sales person for the longest time till he moved to Performance Products (where he is today) As an interesting side note, when the mcafee location was sold to become Victory, all the staff and personnel went with Allan to Glendale to take over that dealership, while the techs and porsche license went to the Victory blvd location with its new owners!

Thanks guys ,that didn't take long! Speaking of Scott he and I and John N and Ron C had dinner in Vallejo Sat night..after track strategy was addressed the conversation slipped to Mul stories(go figure). One of the one's that had us cracking up was when John brought up the "mini theft ring" going around back then sucking up everyone's Cooper that wasn't chained down-and how Dave actually did bolt his down via a sunken post in his driveway that pad locked the frame!

I heard about someone's Mini that got chained to a house. It managed to disappear anyway about midnight one night. Cops called and report made at the home. Victim wakes up at 530am to find Mini returned albeit a little bit of front bumper damage.

Good to know where Victory Porsche was. I talked to the original owner of my 911 and it was bought at Victory in '86.
Re Ken Miles' shop: it was at 4702 Vineland (next to Parkinson's Italiano Motors). This info is from Art Evans' book on Miles. Charlie Agapiou (who worked at the shop; and later crewed for Miles with Shelby) says that Miles had to move the shop three times and was finally shut down by the IRS! Agapiou now runs a Rolls Royce shop on Santa Monica.

Charles has had a good run and some nice cars in his hands over the years. Some Mini's too! One funny thing I remember was when he was peddling "Cooling System Flush Franchise's"...It's a short story.

Why am I not surprised by this? The man has even started naming all the individual rock chips on his car. Get him to start telling you about how he got each one, and you wind up listening him talk to himself (or is he on the Bluetooth stuck in his ear?) for the next 10 minutes.

OK Marc no rock chip stories tonight. I only want to hear about almost loosing it in 4. That sounds much more interesting. So, did you let Jack drive your car?

I'll be there, with every bit of dirt, pebbles, rubber chunks, and gobs of brake dust I left the track with.
