Here is the other front wheel, badly pitted. Almost non-restorable.
![]() This wheel was super pitted and needed 320 grit to start, followed by 400, 600, poishing compound, and "Mother's". ![]() This is what it looked like after sanding, but before polishing. ![]() The center caps needed lots of work like the wheels did. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 06-14-2008 at 08:13 PM.. |

The wheel on the right has been sanded only, without any polishing, compared to the finished wheel on the left.
This is a tremendous amount of work. ![]() Here are both of the front wheels now finished and looking good, fully restored. ![]() Watch out for that reflection. It's too strong. Unbelievable! ![]() There's nothing like polished Mag. Look at that finish! I'm in love again. She's coming back to life. ![]() Closer... Last edited by Banning; 06-14-2008 at 08:21 PM.. |

Mfi
The Mechanical Fuel Injection Pump has arrived, fully repaired. A few more details and back goes the engine into the car.
![]() The pump is set up for a 2.8 RSR. ![]() Closer... Last edited by Banning; 06-14-2008 at 08:10 PM.. |

The rims are really starting to look good! With the MFI pump, it should really give you an incentive to get things done - in two weeks.
We had our annual Big Bear drive today. I was the lucky one to get the raffle prize - my very own speeding ticket. Big Bear VI - 06/14/08 Other than the ticket - I was heading down the mountain, it was a nice day. Not as big a turnout as the past years, but that made it easier to manage.

I am not planning to fight the ticket. If the ticket is dismissed due to a technicality, I'll take it, but it was my mistake. I was not being reckless, just trying to catch up to the last car before the passing lane ended. I did not want to sit behind another car going 20 MPH under the speed limit until the next passing lane. At least I will be up to date on current traffic laws...

traffic school?
here in new york it will negate up to three points[i think]on your license, and you will get a ten percent reduction on your insurance too. |

Chris,
Things are looking good. Fingers are sure to be hurting- a blood blister or five, and a nail missing. (Ouch) I am optimistic about 2 weeks. I say a month and the girl will be good to go if you find rubber in time. I am glad to see the progress. Worthwhile and inspiring! Dave, Sorry to hear about the yellow "invitation to make a donation". No fun. By the way I am sure that was a solid yellow line coming down the hill. 22349 (B) reflects an undivided highway which is a eronious technicality. Solid yellow is an imaginary divided highway by law and intent. I know this as I had a $600 fine pending with a schoolbus that was reversed on the "undivided highway- solid yellow line" issue. I see he got you on radar. Even easier to fight on principal, curvy mountain road, other vehicles present, line of sight obscured.... A ticket is a legal document and must be 100% correct based on the facts. Looks like he got your vehicle license confused with your DL# adding that his attention was placed elsewhere. Fight it! Mitigate your costs.

They are Good Year Blue Streak Sports Car Special tires, but what 'series' are they? I've searched, and haven't found the same tread pattern that you have. If you'll post the sizes and series, I'm sure someone could find a set for you.
Then again, would you be willing to go with a more modern tire? I realize that you'd like to keep it looking and running as close to how it was 30 years ago, but I'm sure there are better tires out there now.

Dave,
I was referring to the VC on the ticket. A little hole is present on the B sub section that adds in the b) "Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no person may drive a vehicle upon a two-lane, undivided highway at a speed greater than 55 miles per hour unless that highway? Lookup the meaning in the VC of undivided highway and you will understand the hole. Nothing to do with crossing any lines. What kind of lines (solid, broken, colors) are key. 22349. (a) Except as provided in Section 22356, no person may drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than 65 miles per hour. (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no person may drive a vehicle upon a two-lane, undivided highway at a speed greater than 55 miles per hour unless that highway, or portion thereof, has been posted for a higher speed by the Department of Transportation or appropriate local agency upon the basis of an engineering and traffic survey. For purposes of this subdivision, the following apply: (1) A two-lane, undivided highway is a highway with not more than one through lane of travel in each direction. (2) Passing lanes may not be considered when determining the number of through lanes. (c) It is the intent of the Legislature that there be reasonable signing on affected two-lane, undivided highways described in subdivision (b) in continuing the 55 miles-per-hour speed limit, including placing signs at county boundaries to the extent possible, and at other appropriate locations. Amended and Repealed Sec. 22, Ch. 766, Stats. 1995. Effective January 1, 1996. Repeal operative March 31, 1996. Added Sec. 23, Ch. 766, Stats. 1995. Effective January 1, 1996. Operative March 31, 1996. Amended Sec. 1, Ch. 20, Stats. 1996. Effective March 29, 1996. Amended Sec. 41, Ch. 724, Stats. 1999. Effective January 1, 2000.

I'm not sure I get what you are saying Jeff. I was caught for speeding, I understand this. What does this have to do with solid or dashed yellow lines? I was in a legitimate passing zone, but speeding (according to the ticket.)

Now that the rotors are clean of rust, it is time to restore the braking system. Here is the left front strut.
![]() The brake fluid that was originally used was blue in color, and slightly transparent. Now the brake fluid looks murky after 32 years. Time for replacement. ![]() Here is a close up of the left front stainless steel brake line, also time for replacement. The old brake lines are now stiff and feel kind of brittle. Got to go! ![]() The rear brake lines are just as brittle, and dangerous. It will be good to have all new brake lines. ![]() We'll be using Shell Donax brake fluid, it exceeds DOT 3 and DOT 4. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 06-18-2008 at 07:42 PM.. |
