Good one.
Actually I'm letting the gas and oil stand for a day to check for leaks in the fuel and oil lines. This is because the car sat for so long without starting. Fuel lines are new, stainless steel oil lines are original but in good condition.

So far, no leaking of fluids. :cool:

great to see you finding passion in the old lady again and making this happen ... forgive me if it has been explained earlier in the thread ... but why did you mothball the vehicle in the first place? wrong car at the wrong time or?

On January 17, 1994 at 4:32 am, my house that I grew up in on Mulholland Drive fell on top of me in the Northridge Earthquake. My Carrera survived as being in a detached steel shed saved it from being crushed.

I could not start it anymore on a regualar basis since my life was in shambles. I had to take apart the fallen house that my dad built in 1953 at the end of a lonely street just off of Mulholland, and build a new stronger house.

My priority was to rebuild as quickly as possible. My wife and I lived there in a motorhome in the dirt for 14 months while I rebuilt a new home. It was a difficult time.

Without being started on a regualar basis, the Carrera's fuel laquered in the gas tank and in the MFI system making it impossible to run.

Years passed while I pursued other goals, the Carrera waited.

One day, I met a new friend while waiting for another. That friend led me to another friend. That friend led me to Dan Magee who ended up helping me to create The Mulholland Experience book which was for many years waiting to be created. The book isn't perfect, but for a first try at writing it isn't bad. The second edition will be close to perfect and should satisfy even the toughest critics.

The Mulholland Experience book inspired this thread created by Derek. This thread was what I needed for inspiration to get it together and restore the
Carrera built for Mulholland. Thank you Derek.

It felt like a good day. I took the car cover off of the Carrera and inspiration hit me.

I got out my collection of fuel line and hoses.

After connecting the fuel lines from the fuel pump to a suitable container, I flushed the lines out completly.
It's a good thing too because amber colored old fuel came out for a second, YUK! None of that contamination touched the motor or it's MFI system.

Then I connected clear fuel line between the gas coming in line to the gas going out line so I could check for flow and cleanliness.

Before proceeding I used small hose clamps to secure the fuel line to prevent a catastrophe.
Then I turned on the key to circulate gas for a few minutes. It helped to clear out the pump and the lines. The fuel pump now sounds normal and all gas is clear.

With fuel flowing freely it was time to engage the starter. I took out the distributer rotor and dry started it a few times to get oil back into the oil gallerys.
This is very important. Oil should be fully coating all bearing surfaces before starting the car.

The high compression makes the engine sound strong when the starter is engaged.

The moment of truth being at hand, I put the rotor back into the distributer.
After removing the air cleaner I put a teaspoon of gas into each injection stack.

The ignition key turned and voila! The engine immediately began to idle for about 3 seconds.
There's nothing like a 911! And I mean nothing! After 14 years it just starts like that? Ha, Ha, Ha!

All this is on video and when ready will be posted here.

After repeating this proceedure, I was satisfied that the car will now run with the MFI pump connected to fuel.

After new tires and seatbelts are installed, maybe we can have a meeting on Mulholland, and I'll bring the Carrera. Might be like the old days in a way.
