Aargh!

I moved yesterday and need to clear out the old house today, at noon! :(

Good luck today guys. I'll be thinking about the big start up today and maybe even fire up the '69 to baptize the neighborhood. ;)

Found

By strange coincidence, yesterday I found my old Racing Helmet and Fireproof Nomex Racing Suit back deep in a closet.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1220025922.jpg

In the box I found a pair of fireproof Nomex Gauntlets, a Nomex head sock, a pair of Nomex foot socks, and double layer Nomex long-john underwear.
And of course the fireproof Nomex Racing Suit.
This is the same suit that I wore for the photograph used in the story "Thunder Road" by David Barry. This story was the basis for the movie "King of the Mountain".

These patches were in the box with the Racing Suit.

Check out the year of the Simpson Helmet. Those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end...

Helmet still fits!

Last detail

At 7:15am, I walked outside and noticed something I don't usually see on Mulholland.
Cool dense fog was blowing at a Very fast rate, towards the ocean. Strange!
It cleared by 8:00am and strings of whispy clouds were visible at high altitude.
The temperature of the wind warmed quickly.

Today is an important day.

Before we start and run the car, the last detail is making sure that the fuel distribution/filter assembly is clean.
It is now 9:40am. By 11:00am it should be ready to mount and connect.

We already know that the engine will start from yesterdays experiment.
I have to admit, this is exciting.

I was tuning in for the engine start party, but the Racing suit and helmet are priceless. So awesome.

KevinP73 08-29-2008 12:29 PM

It's 1:30.........the whole world is waiting.

KevinP73 08-29-2008 01:23 PM

Almost 2:30 and no word from Mulholland Control. I'm getting nervous.
.
.
.
.
But then maybe they're too busy pouring the Champagne and listening to the sweet sounds of RSR to give a report.
Let's hope.

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got back from Banning's place.
Man, it is stupid hot here today.
I hope Dave will be posting pics and video soon.

Banning's sister was also there doing her video thing, similar to the most recent video Banning posted. I imagine it will take time to edit.

onlycafe 08-29-2008 02:03 PM

excellent news. can hardly wait for video.

slodave 08-29-2008 02:37 PM

I'm home. I have to clear a little space for the video. I'll try and get a little piece up soon.

slodave 08-29-2008 02:58 PM

Chris' sister is putting together the 'professional' video.

I'm going for comedy ...

vntgspd 08-29-2008 11:38 PM

Congrats Chris!

I was sooo excited to fire up and drive my car after being down for only 6 months, I can only imagine what you were feeling when she fired up after sitting for so many years.

I look forward to seeing the beast in person and hearing the wonderful flat 6 sound.

Well done!

David

Final Fuel Prep

Yesterday before everyone showed up at Noon, I had to connect the fuel system.

Here are the component parts before re-assembly.

A top view of the fuel distribution mount.

This is an underside view, where the fuel filter is screwed onto the mount.

A side view showing the inside of the "outlet" side of the fuel mount.

On the left side of the photo is the cleaned fuel dist/filter assembly.
The MFI pump is visible on the right with it's fuel injection lines showing.
In the center is one side of the Fuel Injection Stacks.

These are the major componets of the MFI system (along w/fuel pump and gas tank).

The moment has arrived...

A little after 12:00, visitors began to show.

My friend Nick was already here when Dave (slodave) showed up.

He was followed by Derek (lfot), Chris (porcupine) and Radu.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1220109916.jpg

Looks like a little friendly inspection before starting.

My sister showed up to video and we began.

After several tries with gas being primed by hand, I could see that fuel pressure at the MFI pump was insufficient and it would not keep running possiby due to the fuel regulator/fuel fitting being stuck with laquer.

Persistance pays!

On the 6th try, I heard the audible sound of the fuel pump change, a signal that fuel was now flowing freely thru the MFI system.

I got into the car and...Awesome! It started right up, revved, and almost idled.
After several times starting the engine, I was ready to rev it up!
It still screams like it used to, revs like it used to, and intimidates like it used to.
The guys backed off quickly the first time I revved to 5000. Smoke shot out like shotguns, it was an incredible sight. ;)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1220109947.jpg

Due to not being started for over 14 years, all kinds of smoke, oil and debris came shotgunning out of the exhaust.

Here, Derek is showing how far the car shot out crapp.
