Porsche Crest Racecourse Salvage

It was such a beautuful day today. Myself and a famous Mulholland personality went for a walk thru the Racecourse.
About 3 months ago, I saw men pulling car parts out from below (over Mulholland) near Bowmont. I wanted to check and see if they scoured the whole Course of it's artifacts.
We started at Deadmans. Here is the view looking towards the east, Skyline Drive is just around the corner.

From Deadmans, you can see deep into the Canyon where the area known as "The Rainforest" is located.
It is thick with oaks down there, and several old Firemans hoses are hung up very long. It's called "The Swings". Unreal!

Definite evidence of parts being pulled up. Note the Porsche 911 roof they left on the right.

Here at Mid-Pits there was evidence of car parts being pulled up on the left side berm.

Porsche Crest Mulholland over the side

Here in Carls there was no evidence of any salvage activity.
And there's much to discover down there.

A view from Carls looking west with Grandstands visible.

Hidden in the underbrush is the remains of a small house and a Jeep backed up against the hillside. This is right below The Sweeper.
An old road that is barely visible connects Mulholland at Bowmont with the Canyon bottom. This house is located right on this road. Interesting!
I wonder who lived there...

From the Overlook, (from Grandstands back to Carls).

Here's a nice view taken from Grandstands looking towards Bowmont and The Sweeper.

I'm in freakin' Jerome Arizona, and I just met a former Mulhollander. Says he drove the "Coca Cola" car in the mid 80's. Think it was a Z. He had a Coca Cola plate on the back because it wasn't registered.

Kiley, you know him maybe?

Speaking of odd old cars, anyone go to Pierce collage (13th grade) back in the early/mid 80's?
There was a guy that had one of those 1st gen. Honda Civics with a liquid fuel rocket motor in
the back hatch!!! I talked to him once or twice in the parking lot. He would occasionally do
demo runs a local drag racing events.
The first time I saw it in the lot I almost fell over :>0 The whole rear hatch and back seat area was taken up by the rocket and its asociated spun aluminum fuel tanks. I think it was
built from the guts of a surplus RATO (rocket assisted take off) unit. The nozel was under the rear plate, which was split in half and mounted of a pair of spring loaded brackets.
One of the craziest things I ever saw.

I'm here for some filming, photography, and a bit of escapism from LA.
Yes, it is that ghost town I went to a couple years ago.
This guy Don that runs the local abandoned mine (the Gold King Mine) really digs my Porsche. There are literally a hundred old trucks and cars and motorcycles rusting away on the mine lot, but in this little garage he has a pristine orange '74 Karmann Ghia that he drives around town. So we chatted a bit about cars and such. He also has this awesome old street rod in the garage with the Ghia.

Here's Don. And yes, he looks like this ALWAYS:

I'll post more about this gem of the Arizona desert when I get back... if anyone is interested.

Added note:
Don's street rod is based on a 1932 Studebaker "Rockne"... as in Knute Rockne.

I wish. They were barely visible through ol' timey wavy glass widows on this weird old barn-like garage. I did see the Ghia running around town though.

No pics of those two cars.

Lots of other pics when I get around to them.

Here's a better pic of Don Robertson of the Gold King Mine that I found.
Yeah, I talked shop with him about cars. He's a super nice guy.
Actually, the people of Jerome are just generally very nice.
Odd thing for an Angelino like me.

Women should not be allowed to drive.

How hard is it to LOOK in your rear view mirror to see if someone is behind you???

In a parking lot she's a bit confused, starts to back up and I lay on the horn. Nope, that doesn't stop her, nor did my car, after the initial hit, she still backed up.

She'd no longer be breathing on this planet if my 911 was hit.

So on the way home, I saw these guys somewhere in AZ.
Was there a vintage Porsche event going on somewhere?
I saw a couple more going the other way when I got to CA.

Show some more pix of the town/surrounding area..

The old dude, looks like a wax person. Also looks like he could cut your heart out at a lonely motel on a dark stormy night...

I'll work on it.
I took mostly video this time, but I also have some photos from when I was there a couple years ago.

Please notice my car parked on the street under my hotel window, just to keep things "on topic".
