The Targa events are very cool. They also have them in Tasmania, Australia and other places.
One cool thing is they have classes for pretty much any kind of car (even slant roofed RSR's ,
;>). Very hard on equipment but thats racin'. Like old AJ said, "$peed is just a matter of money, how fast do you wanna go?"
Kevin, I'd be glad to navigate, as long as you don't mind some extra, ahem "balast" ;>0

P.S. in the off season they show this on Speed channel

Nine17,
Yeah, the Targa Florio classic is one of those "have to do once before you die" events.

It's the "Tour de France" of Mexico and what Porsche named the Carrera and Panamera models after.

Yeah, there are two versions of La Carrera. The short one that runs between Ensenada and San Felipe, and the long one that basically follows the original 1000 mile course. "Mad Dog: Antenucci did the long one a few years ago and said it was the craziest race he ever competed in. This coming from a guy who once crossed the finish line at Silver State at 170 mph on fire!

One version of La Carrera Panamericana, the Mexican Road Race. 3200km, 7 days + qualifying.

targa tas is basically run under WRC rallying rules - except all on closed public roads (tarmac). serious competition, no partying.

La Carrera is 6 point cages minimum, SCCA/ FIA compliant .. race sections on closed roads with transit sections between (3200 km of tarmac better than most in the USA) ..

The 200+ mph Studebakers and Oldsmobiles and all the front runners are essentially NASCARS with old skins on them with $250k efforts behind winning ... new cars last year were FIA subies, FIA GT3 Porsche, 209mph Camaro etc ....

VERY serious competition AND some GREAT parties.

that sounds more like it.

their website does them a dis-service. makes it look like a cannonball/frat event.

I'll know for sure in two weeks how much longer it's going to take to get it finished.
