Long time since I dropped in here.

I remember John Clark from being in Pacific Sports Car Club with him (A SCCSCC member club) in 1970-1974. He ran the same Lotus Elan back then. Dr Fred Mc Clung was in the club too with his Elan that he and Dave Bean drove in SCCA Cal Club events. John Norris and his dad were in the club also, along with Tom O'Conner(510 four door), some guy named Devendorf, Russ Kissenger from Flying Tigers, Ed Johnson (240Z) and many others.

I first ran the A/Sedan as a shakedown at the Dodger Stadium SCCSCC event in 1973. They had mirror image courses layed out side by side so two cars could run at a time. The previous year, I won K class championship in my red Boss 302.

Came across this mag called Time Clock which covered the slalom and time trial scene in the mid-70s. Some of the names you mention are found in the event results they published. I scanned a few pages.

Thanks for the link, Tedman. Great stuff. There are many other names there that gave the memory a jolt

This wouldn't be you, would it?
"I remember when Pat P flew his Mustang off Carls turn. We all rushed down to see if we could rescue him. Having arrived in what seemed like seconds after the flight ended we were standing on the berm looking over to see if we could even see the danged car. As we were peering down into the bush a guy smoking a cig standing next to us asked what we were looking for? Heck is was Pat! He had climbed out of the car, scampered up the hill and lit a cig before we arrive. Not a scratch on him." Post #452

Yes, I'm that Pat P, but the facts are somewhat skewed. I never flew one of my Mustangs off Carl's turn. I remember letting Ivan (Sunbeam Tiger) road test my yellow 65 Mustang and he launched it into the air in front of a police car at Bowmont Drive after the cop lit up the gumball. I was in the passenger seat. Ivan got a ticket and I got to drive the car home with terminal toe in.

I remember breaking in my new motor in the red Boss 302 one Saturday evening when a yellow 914 crossed the road and front ended me at Carl's turn. The 914 went down the hill. Me and my car were still on the asphalt. both with a broken nose. Folks shimmied down the hill to help the guy in the 914.

Pretty cool urban legend, though! :D

Tedman,

Would you be the same "Ted" that ran 510s in SCCA/SCCSCC slaloms in the early '90s???

Pretty cool stuff - some of those names are still present today! CASOC is also still going as part of a subgroup with the local SCCA autocrossers.

I used to run a certain green and yellow Swedish anchor that thought it was a racecar. ;)

Not Mulholland.
Most likely Malibu canyons, Angeles Forest, or Glendora Mountain Rd.

My money is on the latter.

flatspot 03-18-2009 05:52 PM

Yeah,
Definitly not Mul, ricers + rock wall lining road = Glendora Cnyn Rd.

Very cool Radu. Sorry to miss you last weekend (went to Catalina with Jane), I really want to see the Tesla. Everything that I have read about it sounds incredible. You are a lucky dog to have one to drive.

Here's a good example to everyone how hard work, patience, and a good backround (education) can be rewarded so awesomely. Way to go Radu!
