If you are inferring that I am missing more than one screw, as in my mind, you are correct, and I am looking forward to seeing you soon in person Alereck.

As per the screw, I am missing one of the four needed to hold down the aluminum rear window straps. It is a countersunk, short, fine thread, stainless screw.

I may show up tomorrow at TRE to see my saviors Dave and Jeremy.
They have been of great assistance. Thanks guys!

Chris, as far as the screw go's, maybe try West Marine, or similar. Lots of stainless hardware on them sailboats. Good luck, Mike.

Thanks for that info Mike.

Jeremy mentioned a place in Burbank called AllenFasteners or something similar.

I'm celebrating 17 years of Marriage today but she will go along with me hunting for parts if it's for the Carrera, I hope. lol

Congrats, Chris. If your wife is willing to spend The Day driving around in the drizzle to look for some obscure tiny fastener for your car, I can see why you've been together for 17+ years.

Now, just wanted to show off a little Christmas gift I got this year from the PPOT X-mas Gift ExchangeŠ organized by Dueller. On official CalTrans orange jumpsuit. I think it might be perfect during those times we want to do some asphalt patchwork up on the Race Course. Kind of a "Give back to the community" opportunity. For safety reasons we might need to close down the road temporarily. We'd probably want to do that at night time to diminish the effect on traffic, you know. ;)

Found it! Thanks.

Machine screw 9406497 Zinc flat head countersunk phillips did the trick.

It's always good to fix one more thing before going out again.
Kind of like fixing that something extra in your house before guests are expected, lol

Good! So we'll see you out there tomorrow morning?

What time are you going to be there Derek, and is Radu going?
Please tell him Happy New Year for me if you see him.
I know he's been busy with Tesla. ;)

7:30 Meet at TRE. If you show up, Chris, please pull your car into the back lot for everyone to check out.
8:30 Departure time.

slodave 12-31-2009 05:52 PM

Chris, you'd better show up. It's not that tough of a drive and others with cars just as stiff or stiffer will be there...

Safety straps in after 30 years

After a couple hours getting rid of oxidation on the aluminum safety window straps, they were ready to put back on the Carrera after 30 years. They floated around my tool box for those years waiting for today.

These straps are required (SCCA) to reduce the risk of losing your rear window into nice folks following you. (esp. with flush lexan glass)
Dave B. know a lot more about SCCA rules than I do. Maybe he will elaborate.

John Mason made these for the car in 1976. I took them off of the car in 1978 because of looks and because they slapped the Lexan rear window at speeds over 100.

They went on like they were taken off yesterday. What a beautiful fit. John Mason is an artist. Thanks again John.
The screws go into a riv-nut, a threaded insert in the body. No sheet metal screws here.
