Quick comment on the thread. I recently found this treasure trove of memories of and can't thank enough all who have participated . I moved here in 1978 from CT and dragged my 66 cooper S along with me . Unfortunately I really didn't find out about the " course " until it had just about shut down but did try to learn as much as I could about it. I drove the area a few times but spent more time over in the Malibu area, Decker , Piuma etc. I still drive the same spots 30+ years later with my new version Mini , now 10 years old . I've done the New Years hangover run with TRE and had no idea that Dave B was such a bad boy back in the day , love that ! I am only up to page 160 and I am sure I may uncover a few more of you that I already know but don't really KNOW. If any of you veterans from those days happen to see me out and about please introduce yourselves as it would be a honor to meet you .

Cool, thanks for posting. Many Fiats found there way to Mulholland.
I got my first car in 1973, it was a 1970 Fiat 850 Abarth Spyder in lime green.
Not as sexy as the Fiat in this commercial. I have stories delux concerning the Fiat.
What a fun little car. And thank god I lived thru it. Not exactly built like a Benz. lol
I've laughed for 38 years about how I learned bodywork on it. 6 gallons of Bondo and my first paint job. Still a fun car none the less. Many memories.

I remember back in CT in the 70's where the Fiat's would start to show surface rust in the sales lot . That was even before they got a taste of the salt covered roads . Not too many Fiats alive back there but they were fun while they lasted.

I've been "in the business" relating to law and traffic accidents for nearly 30 years. The driver who changes lanes into occupied space is at fault when clipped from behind like this, full stop. A driver changing lanes has the responsibility of maintaining 360-degree situational awareness at all times -- especially on a public highway. It doesn't matter if the driver thinks that he owns the road or if the car in the other lane has had the audacity of accelerating to get there first. Driving a car with enormous blind-spots is no excuse.

There are race tracks for this kind of car -- but this kind of driver is often "banned" from participating in track events by the various sanctioning bodies...

Maxmini, were you on the snake this morning about 10 minutes to 9? I was riding a bicycle and a fast turbocharged Mini passed me just after the rock overhang/water tank turn going up hill. I heard something fast coming and took to the curbing just in case.

No I didnt make it out this weekend with the exception of the Super Car Sunday show.

Due to a few modifications my Mini sounds a bit different than most . This is what you would have heard had it been my car :)

I met Peter Thelin about two years ago. He is from Sweden but lives in China (for business reasons) and is an avid Porschephile. He contacted me because of his interest in Mulholland and he had heard about The Mulholland Experience book.

We have spent some time together when he has been in town. I took him to TRE last year to meet Dave. It seemed to be a good collaberation.
Dave has some great race parts at his shop. Also Peter joined the infamous RGRUPPE recently.

He is planning an article for a European Magazine on Mulholland Drive and is gathering info for it.

Two sundays ago he brought his Porsche up to Mul to let me drive it.
He says it is the only 993RS in the U.S. I think he said it was a 1996. He bought it when it was almost new, sold it briefly, and bought it back.
He has had it back for 12 years now.

The day previous he unloaded it off the docks in the LA Harbor. It had just arrived from Sweden.
He is only allowed to keep it here in the U.S. for 6 months, and then back it goes.

Anyway he hadn't called me that Sunday and I was not sure if he was coming up to Mul or not.
When he arrived I had already started Cocktail hour and so I said no thanks to driving, but that he could give me a demo to Grandstands and back.

The car is pretty quiet even though quite stiff. Power is even thru the powerband. Handles flat and even. Brakes squeeled in the rear.
Overall a nice road car. It is reported to have 300bhp and it is a stripped model with no heavy undercoating.
I did expect it to be faster. Has torque but didn't pin me to the seats like the Space Shuttle taking off.

We did have a nice drive to Deadmans and back with little traffic.
He mentioned having a few Mulholland meetings this summer and that he would bring his RS.
I thought this might be an interesting idea albeit perhaps not a safe one. lol
I can see it now, Radu, Derek, Peter and myself (in Porsches) taking a casual drive to dirt Mul one evening. Oh Boy!
Remember the speed limit is 30mph and it is unlawful to cross over the double yellow line. ;)

I'm in! I actually did a prerun this morning. they're redoing the sewer lines south of 405 so expect uneven pavement and tones of steel plates in the worst places. traveling north it's ok, same as usual, but south is bumpy as F#%k...

Radu is correct. Until this section of Mul is repaired, no lowered cars shoud attempt damaging their car. The Section in question is between Woodcliff and Roscomare.

This same section has a 300 foot long, four foot tall wall along Mulholland that used to get tagged, we sometimes called it Graffiti.

It was also known as "The Bumps" because it was always bumpy from damage from water coming up from an underground spring.
This condition is visible for most of the year.

It's been there probably since Mulholland was created/graded.
Perhaps this is why they are having to do this repair. Nasty bumps...

I visited LA last week after a long flight from South America.
Because of this thread I wanted to drive Mulholland (borrowed a friend's 993 c2s). Needless to say it was a remarkable drive.

I also visited C&C in Irvine for the first time. I saw that car there. Truly beautiful. From what I remember a lady was driving it.
