Mulholland Dr. Closed
Attention: Mulholland closed between Benedict Canyon and Coldwater Canyon due to water main break.
The helicopters woke us up around 4 am and continued to hover for about 2 more hours. I thought at first it was an automobile crash which is usually what helicopters flying nearby at night imply. A 20-inch ruptured pipe near the 13600 block of Mulholland Drive was reported around 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, a Los Angeles Fire Department dispatch supervisor said. The rupture was located in front of Warren Beatty's house between the two Identicals. Water was sent gushing downhill, flooding nearby streets at the bottom in Deep Canyon. Homeowner Kyoo Ro showed a news station his tennis court and pool, which were both filled with mud and water. Firefighters worked to protect Ro's property from any further damage. Department of Water and Power workers eventually shut off the water supply sometime before 4:45 a.m. It's 6:45 now and there are around 8 fire trucks in the Identicals with their flashing lights on. Mr. Beatty has been rebuilding his house for the past 2 years. It's possible that all the heavy equipment going in and out of his place influenced the water main break on Mulholland Drive in front of his driveway. The water main pipes are old and need replacement. All mains in my neighborhood (adjacent to the current break) are original and over 50 years old. |

The Mulholland Experience
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1259862428.jpg
Since this thread addresses the book, The Mulholland Experience, and many great stories from many eras, as well as the condition of a certain old silver Porsche this should be the place where this is announced. There will not be a second edition of the book. It was a good practice run but just as one might get a faster, better race car from constant modifications- sometimes it's better to just get a car with more potential. After all editing was completed in the last two weeks, my editor and I realized that nothing is the same, every page is now different from The Mulholland Experience. I decided to make a completely new book. I'm planning the new book with a new and different title. It is larger by 1 inch length and width. It will have a new cover that will blow your mind. All chapter headings have been changed. Some material has been deleted and a lot added. The photos have also been changed and some photos from this thread will be put in instead (with owners permission). All spelling is corrected, all syntax errors repaired, the time line is consistant now, and missing information has been added. I have interviewed more Mul Racers to add to the story and make it more accurate and complete. Missing groups added. Just a few more Racers to interview, add in their stories, add the new photos and we will be almost ready to go back to print with a new book about Mulholand. A few Modern Mul racers, a couple of CRE members and two MRA members are all that is needed for completion. This new book is one that I will be proud to bring you. I will not publish unless it addresses all criteria and is Banning approved. I no longer have a co-writer to deal with. If I can swing it we will have an introduction in the book by a famous Automotive writer. That will help to get a good review in Autoweek or a similar car enthusiast magazine. Sometime in Spring hopefully. |

And don't feel bad about missing the Thanksgiving run. Keep New Year's Morning open... that's the BIG one. |

Even BETTER!
At first I was thinking the worst... "There will not be a second edition of the book" Tell the publisher we are all waiting to pre-order. |
that will make the first version worth more.
|
Will the book be available to overseas readers? Would love a copy
|
So we have Derek to thank for not only starting this thread but also for his fair but critical observations of the first edition of the book. I hope he gets credit in the final copy. Maybe he should write the forward for it.

I'll pass on the forward. |
Don't duck out that honor so quickly. Win a couple more autox and maybe you'll become a famous enough automotive personality to qualify for writing the forward.
|
Maybe Banning will mention me and Radu and the MIRRC. That's about all I want.
|
Understood. Too much attention --> end of clandestine speeding activities.
