For some reason, 'Ol Lancer can't get a reply on to this thread, so........without further adue (and also in capitol letters so everybody can hear, I guess):
NO ONE THAT RACES HAS A DEATH WISH, AND AS WE AGE OUR SENSE OF MORTALITY SEEMS TO DRASTICALLY REDUCE OUR "RISK TAKING" ABILITY. WHICH IS REALLY WHAT "RACING" ON MUL WAS ALL ABOUT. MY DRIVING ON MULHOLLAND AT THE TAIL END OF THE CRE ERA THOUGH WAS THE BASIS FOR MY ENTIRE CAREER. I WAS ABLE TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SCCA, IMSA, MOTOROLA CUP, HSR, ETC. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO WIN IN RACES IN EVERY TYPE OF CAR...RWD,FWD,AWD.....I HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO RACE AND WIN IN SOME INCREDIBLE PORSCHE'S....GT2 AT THE PETIT LE MANS, FIA GT RACE AT HOMESTEAD WITH BOB WOLLEK AS A TEAM MATE BEFORE HE DIED.....AND I HAVE RACED WITH ALL THE CRE GUYS ON THIS THREAD.....GREAT RACERS EVERY ONE OF THEM...MM...RUSSELL CHAMPION, VRVT...SSB CHAMP, RON, PAT, DAVE ETC. IF THEY MOVED ON TO OTHER AREAS OF RACING THEY WERE AWESOME AT THAT PART OF THE GAME AS WELL. IN MY OPINION, THE ONLY REASON ANYONE DOES NOT ACTUALLY GO RACING (IF THEY CLAIM THEY REALLY WANT TO) IS IF THEY TRULY DO NOT WANT TO.... THE BIGGEST FEAR I HAVE FOUND IN PEOPLE THAT SAY "THEY WANT TO BUT COULD NOT AFFORD IT, OR DO NOT HAVE THE TIME" OR WHATEVER IS THE FEAR OF FAILURE........ I WENT RACING WITH ZERO MONEY....I NEVER BOUGHT A RIDE, NEVER HAD TO...... I DID HAVE PLENTY OF HELP...... SOME FROM PEOPLE ON THIS THREAD......EVEN TODAY I LOOK TO THEM FOR ADVICE AND HELP WHEN I MANAGE TO STILL GET SOME SEAT TIME......BUT IT DID NOT TAKE HUGE SUMS OF MONEY...I JUST DECIDED TO IT AND I KEPT PROGRESSING AS FAR AS I COULD ON MY ABILITY. I STILL FEEL FAR SAFER ON A RACE TRACK THEN ON THE STREET...ESPECIALLY DRIVING HERE IN MIAMI...BUT IF I STILL LIVED IN LA AND MULHOLLAND WAS JUST THE SAME AS WE ALL REMEMBER IT....I WOULD STILL GO UP THERE....MAYBE MORE FOR THE COMRADERIE THEN THE COMPETITION....BUT I KNOW I WOULD STILL FEEL THAT "URGE" ITS JUST A LOT EASIER NOW DAYS TO THINK AND MAKE A BETTER DECISION....... Black & White portrays a sense of time and depth that color cannot provide. For the old timers....
The original file size on these photos are huge (2.5 megs) in color. Much of the depth is from the camera being 6 inches off the ground for many of the shots and the conversion to B&W. I borrowed a 150mm Telephoto lens which I used for the first time.(really cool) West of Laurel Cyn Park ![]() Looking west up at Deadmans ![]() Looking west up at Deadmans ![]()

The Armco was non existant for a long time. Then a smaller one was installed and then this huge one. On the other side of the rail is air and a good dropoff. I bet we could still find some car parts at the bottom. We could probably find Carls pride too.

Quoted from SSB:
Hmmmm, I alway thought Pearson had the altitude record at Laguna. Maybe Mitchell does? I tried to knock down the tire wall at "old" 4 in the Reno Cup race. aka Salinas off ramp. First lap, I dive to the inside, find Joe Vardi's oil (how come everybody knew that but me?) Went straight into the tire wall, pirouetted and came back down, put into gear and took off up the hill. The corner worker called it in as a "roll & continue" because from his vantage point across the track, he saw the cars top and bottom.. So, lets see, turns 2, 3 & 4. Anybody ugly up the corkscrew?? SSB, Would this be the same Joe V. who works with the Amick's here in NC? If so, he's still known to spill a little oil every once in a while. I did some races with him a few years back and helped build some Motec stuff for him. Great guy though, just wish he would stand up when I'm talking to him. LOL. Btw Thanx for all the great history lessons here.
