Also SSB, I stand corrected that it was the CRE that was never busted all together, thanks for catching that. Accuracy is important.

Since I started tracking my car, I tend to take it a lot easier on the street. My Dad is pleased.

I told my son the same thing. Then (the hypocrite in me) I took the 17 year old boy at the time on one of Dave's New Years morning "Rallyes" in my SVO. He left an imprint on the passenger floor carpet where the brake pedal would have been.

The humor of it hit me after I made the previous post. It reminded me of my Dad a long time ago.

"Why are you putting wider tires on the car when the other ones are just fine?".....Because!

"Why are you taking the 4 cylinder motor out and putting a V8 in?"....Because!

"What exactly do you do when you drive up to Mulholland Drive late at night son"? Oh we hang out and watch the lights Dad. Dad its late and I am going to bed.

Went to visit friends down in Laurel Canyon today. Knew I'd be taking Mulholland after (I still prefer it at night even thought that was the first time I'd gone from Laurel to the 405 in a very long time).
The thought running through my head nearly the entire time was the difference in speed from back then to now. 40 to 50 mph most of the time. Not standing on any of the pedals really. Thinking "lets see now, top of third gear hear - up shift to fourth and flatout through the 3 point sweeper past the pits. Would I do that now. Ahhhhhhh, ya if there was somebody I needed to prove something to. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm No. One really can't prove anything up here other than who is willing to take the bigger risk. I think I can say that for just about everybody who has raced on the race track.
Now if we could get it closed off for a "Hill Climb" WoW

Thanks Dave, sorry but I had company and couldn't break away around 2 pm. I was thinking about it however. Should be good weather next weekend, what do you think?

I forgot to mention about one time being chased home after dinner out. This time it was not much fun being just after a good meal. I was out on a date with Diane G. who was a friend of mine and John H.'s girlfriend on and off. It was 1977. While we were driving back to my house on Mulholland a black and white didn't like the rate of speed that I was driving so he followed with lights and siren. I thought "what me worry", I'll just pour it on and get home asap. I was driving my still fairly new 1975 Chevy Monza/350v8 that was a pretty good performer with Konis, Pirellis, and big sway bars. Well I drove with no lights before getting to my turnoff, but my brake light cut off switch wasn't working, so I was seen and pursued up my street, or it might have been the dust cloud where I turned off Mul. Anyway, I made some noise coming up the street in the way of tires and exhaust, whtich alerted one nieghbor in particular. She came out of her driveway and when she saw the cops she came running out and said, "get that maniac, he lives down that driveway, he drives like a madman."

Well I had to come out of the house and get a serious reprimand, and one heck of a ticket. The cop said, "for two cents I'd take you to jail". I kept very quiet and stiff and was extremely fortunate to just get a citation. Everyone else had gotten their ass kicked. arrested and car impounded for evading. Luck was smiling on me that evening and I still really appreciate it. I hired a well known Attourney and got fined $125 with 6 months probation. This was the only time that I was caught speeding/racing on Mulholland, although other speeding citations were recieved in other locations of course. They are other stories.

Isn't that the way it's always been?
The risk is what has been the attraction hasn't it?
Isn't risk a factor on the racetrack as well?
If you knew the outcome of every event, and there was never any danger, life would be pretty boring.

I think I can say that for just about everybody who has raced on the race track.

Could you shed some insight into this great photo for us?
And by the way anyone that drives his race car to the race track, runs a race and then packs it up and drives the race car back home gets a thumbs up in my book.

Isnt that risky driving a race car on the street? Were you trying to prove something? (wink)

That, to me is the beauty of Showroom Stock. Heat of competition? Hell, I had Air Conditioning! In fact in '81 at Atlanta that A/C in the SSA Mustang moved me thought the field in the rain because I was the only one who could see out his front windshield! The car had to pass a smog test after the race. And of course one has to have a good stereo, right?

But it was Mulholland where I made myself the promise never to crash the MGB. And after succeeding in that I drove my SS street cars to the track (and the Reno Cup Car), raced and drove home. In fact, I drove the SSA car towing another SSA car behind twice to Atlanta and back, and both years for the Peugeot. I'll attach a photo of that this weekend when I get back home.

I was responding to the previous threads about turning into your father. Would I go 10/10's across the hill now? No.

Isn't that the way it's always been? ..........no.
The risk is what has been the attraction hasn't it?..........no.
Isn't risk a factor on the racetrack as well?........ya.
If you knew the outcome of every event, and there was never any danger, life would be pretty boring..........I suppose.

To be able to get 10/10's out of the machine and overcome all the variables, that was the challenge and winning was the reward.

Few winning drivers think they are cheating death and/or dismemberment. Few would do it if they thought they were bound to get hurt. In fact, hearth rate monitors on these drivers show them to be very calm while racing.

How about it Mitchell, Cortez, Pearson?
