FLATSPOT, I too was in awe each and evey time I got to see Charlie make a 'run'. I agree, that car defied the laws of physics.
As when he changed gears going uphill into the sweeper from Carl's turn.. It simply disappeared and reappeared 20 feet up the road. I still don't know how he made that car handle the bumps and stick like it did.

I too have been in racing since the 70's and have seen many
an awe inspiring car/driver. Such as Donahue's 930/10 fly up the esses at Riverside. Or the first time the Audi LMP cars silently attack Sears Point Raceway. And I've got to tell you seeing Charlie make a run in that car was a sight to behold.

Testarosa. About 1/2 hour at 180 MPH. Parts of it was used in the organizers promo tape. This is unedited. Passes Kelly Seavers like he's tied to a post.

Woah! Good god this is fast. They really have to be thinking 2, 3, or even 4 turns ahead at that speed. They must really be processing that information as if it is in slow motion to drive well at those speeds. I have always noticed when racing faster and faster cars, that if it seems like things are happening too fast, then you are going too fast for your abilities at the time. Slow down and grow into it. When you are really into the sweet spot, it everything seems normal speed even though you are going fast. I just could not imagine processing information that fast.

Charley must have lived in the sweet spot all the time.

After seeing t6dpilot's last post I had to look at the video of that awesome hillclimb. What a friggin blast. That looks like soooo much fun, and talk about quick shifting..there's nothing like some of that modern technology. It looks to me like any Superbike would be blown to dust by that car. It accellerates like a bat out of you know where and sticks likes it has new racing tires installed. Great video.

The guy between the Ferrari mechanic and the BMW mechanic on the right row has a broken rear sway bar. The guy on the tail end of the left row is plotting to pass everyone on the first turn (I saw him do that at Portland one time. DFL to first and back to DFL by the second turn! I have the ESPN video archived somewhere). The cop on the left row's father-in-law had a body shop in Burbank where I got my Boss 302 repaired once.

Oh, we never would mention current "clandestine" covert engineering. Some stories from Firehawk, Escort Endurance, IMSA RS and GT are sooo very creative, though.

I remember an IMSA tech inspector Mr Billy Cook, a good old boy finding something in my car that wasn't exactly per the rules. "Hey, thats really nice. Very creative! Change that or hide it so nobody can see it and I won't have to make you remove it. Y'all have a fun weekend!".
