Shortest Time To First Dent

Well, the Prius hasn't even made it to 4000 miles, and my wife has already run into the trash can and dented the fender and scratched the door.

Grrr.

It'll come out with the paintless dent removal and detail guys, I'm sure - but come on already.

She doesn't understand why I look for a safe parking pace, either. Oh, she intellectually understands, but then she wedges the car in the "compact car" spaces between a rusty pickup and a soccer mom's minivan - and wonders why I cringe.

Got you beat; In her 5000KM new Mazda 3 my wife drove into the back of an SUV. Trailer hitch receiver put a nice square hole right through the bumper cover.

I'm not sure if this is a contest or not, but I bought a new Explorer in '95. This was when there was a production delay and the new model year truck was delayed. I totaled my '92 in a big blizzard in Albert Lee MN and had to wait a few months before I could get a new one. Finally got my new truck and got rear ended on the highway the next day, didn't even have plates on it yet. Needed a new bumper and Ford didn't even have them available to the body shops yet. Had to drive around a brand new wrecked truck with temp tags in the window. Probably had about 80 miles on the odo.

Not new, but today the wife ruined one of the wheels on the X5. Terrible road rash on the rim. The good news is we have a full size spare on a good rim.

My wife got her new to her Kia Sorrento. Took it to get groceries, brought it back with a 3' scratch in the pass door. Total time 2 hours.

Had a friend (female) that manged to total her car after 1 day. Since it was a Hyundia Elantra, it was probably for the best in the long run....

How about: Not even 12 hours.
Techincally, we had not even bought the car yet. We had taken it home in order to get a PPI on it. Before we could take it to ge the PPI, our neighbor backed into it. Thus, we wound up calling the sellers and said "we'll take it..."

My neighbor vehemently denied doing the damage. So I hired a forensics investigator to come out and do his thing...

Ahem....(insert polite cough here)....female eyes roving over posts...

I happen to know a lot of men who drive at least as badly as a lot of the women I know....and some of the gals are much better drivers than most of the guys I come across...we're not all mechanically destitute y'know!

Lisa, let us look at it from a slightly different perspective. These guys refer to a accumulated number of less than 10 unlucky women - on a forum with over 43 000 members. That is a pretty insignificant percentage.

My wife can drive just fine. She has never had an accident. It's just that she looks at it as a car, a means of transportation and if it gets dirty or scratched or dented, it can be repaired or sold. As long as it still drives, she is happy. Drives me crazy.

One of the few things in life we totally disagree on, she doesn't understand the Pcar thing at all.

A friend of mine went with his daughter a few years ago to buy a new car. They signed all the paperwork, drove off the lot, stopped at the first light, and were promptly rear-ended.

That has a lot to do with it, in my house. My wife loves her car, she named it, wants me to install all sorts of accessories on it, etc. But then her mind can switch over to some other mode, and before you know it she's feeding the kids friable foods and sticky liquids in the back seat without a care. So far I've had to clean up a pint of grape juice spilled in the front pass footwell, innumerable food remnants in the back seat, and some weird fluorescent pink stuff on the front pass leather (candy? had to use Goof-Off). Then she's suddenly back into "I love my car" mode.

Thing is, she's better than most of the women I know. Her car is actually quite clean (not without effort). Typically, among our friends, the mom-mobile is a most disgusting trash receptacle.

(no offense to lisa, who appears to be a saint among women)

My wife has dents all over her BMW, but she has a new one on order so she can start over . I've quit worrying about it. At least she drives it like it's supposed to driven.

We bought an '88 Thurderbird Turbo Coupe new back in the day. Our local dealer didn't have the color we wanted so he brought one from a dealer 25 miles away. Against my better judgement we took delivery the next evening. As we walked around the shiney dark midnight blue coupe, it looked fine under the lights.

Well, two days later as we are washing it, there is a pretty good scrape dent at the very bottom of the drivers rocker panel. You can't see the spot unless you're 10 feet away or bent way down next to the car. My wife said she wasn't aware of it and she really had no reason to lie to me because it's only a car. We then discussed it with the salesman who became rude and accused us of lieing. Before I belted the moron, the owner showed up and agreed to fix the damage for nothing.

Lesson learned!
