internet dating - question

I've been on match.com for 3 months, with a 100% record of meeting incompatible women. I'm ready to give up on internet dating, and return to the real world. But a few days ago I got an e-mail from a woman who seems very compatible and fun. She has several pictures posted, and she's apparently a redhead, 36 years old. Here's the thing... she won't tell me her first name, because she "has lived here all her life, has an unusual first name, and is concerned about privacy." She wants me to guess her first name. It starts with an A. If I guess correctly, she will let me know. Of course I'm thinking this is a b****** game for a grown woman to play. There are many girl names that start with A, and many of them are "unusual." So I'd like to send her a list of made-up, ribald, crazy girl names, to see if any of those are a match. Any ideas?

Change your profile to: Middleaged & Overweight, not much ambition, likes to drink beer and watch the game. Looking for a women to hang out with sometimes when my friends are busy. She must be neat, thin, well groomed and willing to have sex whenever. Must have a great sense of humor and a willingness to put up with snoring and farting. Bass boat a plus. I will bet $1000 any women who is going to respond and want to go out will be a soulmate.

We have some friends who used eHarmony and they were very satisfied with the results... The people who get "rejected" by eHarmony tend to be married...

life is too short for games. I've learned a few lessons from being on match on and off. First off, do NOT do a long distance thing. Second, meet in person as soon as possible. Do not engage in prolonged email conversations. If she doesn't want to meet for coffee after 2 or 3 emails, sayonara. Third, try not to form expectations based on email and/or phone conversations. There is no substitute for in-person.

+1 nostatic. 2 or 3 e-mails, then meet -- or cut it off. My experience with eharmony was that I could meet more women more rapidly locally, and I'd know for sure that I had at least something in common with them. While the matching algorithm wasn't bad (I've known a couple of friends who got married off eharmony), it didn't cut it for me because of some quirks that I have that aren't exactly obvious (I'm in the Navy -- if you can call having a job a quirk). I'd say: skip the name game. Find someone more mature. At 36, the name game is pretty silly.

Her name is Audrey, and the photo she sends you will be 5 years old. She's put on 80 pounds since then, but you won't know until she gets off the plane. I'm speaking from experience here.

 Met my wife on ICQ

ICQ was cool in many ways. It was more chat and less meat market. I chatted with allot of women all over the world. My wife and I became friends months before we ever met in person.

Match is just an introduction, there is no way you can "date" someone over the internet. Too much of a relationship is tied up in the personal interaction of two people. As long as both people know that I think Match or eHarmony is a great way to meet people. My wife and I met each other on Match. I agree with nostatic.

| Too big to fail |
Nostatic, FTW You should also look into speed dating. I've had very good luck with that - if by "luck" you mean a chick you can take home and bang like a screen door for a few weeks until she finds you on Pelican... But seriously, it time-compresses the whole initial meet-and-greet BS, and it's really hard for a 49 year-old plumber named Earl to hide behind a screen name when he's sitting across the table from you.
