The 11yr old shot it with a .50 cal pistol? I don't know many who hunt hogs with pistols. The whole thing sounds like a Buckmaster set-up. Remember the huge mega-point rack that that kid in Iowa got a few years ago?

A tricked up photo - no boy or gun is that small.

However, I have a friend who hunts them with dogs and a knife. When the dogs catch up to the pig and have him distracted you run up with the knife and slit his throat. Not for the timid (including me).

Looks like it may be true. The site is slow, but there are more pics and info.

Come on down south. I've know several folks who use pistols. I don't hunt myself, but I thought it was odd too

Check out the negative comments on the monsterpig.com site!

edit: I wonder if they are all vegans?

The site is slow, probably getting swamped, but the pig looks real.

Best,

Kurt

In most of the pics it looks like the people are behind the pig. That will make the people look smaller in comparison due to perspective. I'm sure it's a big pig, but I'd have to see something more than that site to believe it 100%.

I was hunting wild pig in Georgia last year and a large male came up on me. He was around 250lbs and looks just nasty. I had a 7mm mag rifle but he walk right under my tree so yes I could have easily killed him with my .45. It hung around about 15 minutes and wandered off.

They are blind and dumb and sound like a train coming through the woods so yes you can hunt one with a pistol. Hell the one I had by me looked at me several times and couldnt figure out what I was.

The story made the mainstream print press here this A.M. I figure it must be true because they usually check sources. I had no idea that wild hogs could get that big.

Can someone explain to me the rationale behind finding the biggest ___________ (fill in the blank) and killing it?

To eat? Not in this case or most cases.
Thinning the herd? Obviously this is a well adapted, vibrant animal, seems like those you want to keep in the gene pool.
Prove something to yourself? Even the game a little and do it without guns.
Prove something to others? Will they really think you are better person/more manly because of it?

I just don't get it.

it's murder. That boy belongs behind bars.. the media is treating him like a hero. just let the poor animal live, for God's sake, why chase it and kill it ?

Directly from the article:

"Mike Stone is having sausage made from the rest of the animal. "We'll probably get 500 to 700 pounds," he said."

Trophy hunting...it's kind of like having a trophy wife.

One cannot, by definition, "murder" an animal. Kill, yes, but not "murder". Typical emotional leftist tripe. Killing for food, that we may eat meat, is as old as mankind. Man cannot lead a healthy life without meat and the fat is contains.

We had a picture of it in our paper today also.

I'll go out on the limb and still say it is a fake.
