As economics and the desire to get out of someplace and into the USA seems to be the basis for these match-ups, your friend may be out of luck as the Japanese have a strong economy and a visa waiver. They have plently of money and are free to travel here at will.

This sorta reminds me of couples going out of the country to adopt children. As if there are not enough needy children here, that are in need of good homes/parents. I always viewed such actions as fodder for some attention getting (look what we did), dinner party types (as well as Hollywood celebs). Awwww.....I can't find a suitable mate in ALL of the USA? Pathetic.

The granting of a Green Card (and they're actually pink and have been for decades) means that they've been approved as a permanent resident. They've already passed all the tests and have nothing left to prove - there is no requirement to remain married after that. (Recent - like in the last 10 years - legislation means they could potentially get their Green Card revoked for offences like DUI or stealing a car - in some cases being deported back to countries they haven't been in since they were a toddler. There's no time limit on that). In fact, IIRC, in certain cases (like abuse), a spousal partner could be separated and in divorce proceedings and still granted residency. Quote:
It took over two years to get to an immediate family-sponsored Green Card (the highest "normal" priority in the queue, BTW) interview in 2000. Granting of status normally doesn't take very long after the interview. By way of contrast, a US Citizen spouse can get a UK resident stamp for $150 in less than 10 days - for what is effectively the same thing.. FYI, that 4 years the woman spent in the country was long enough to permit her to apply for citizenship, IIRC - which she would be eligible to do, as soon as she had permanent residancy. BTW, I'm not a lawyer, but I did itemize $24,000 one year for several of them, and I know certain very specific aspects of US Immigration law really quite well - in fact, better than most para-legals. Ha. Another observation about lawyers - they're very much like Porsche workshops, in that you will pay pretty much exactly the same hourly rate for a really, really, good one as you do for a sloppy haphazard job that costs you big $$$$ to sort out properly later on.

It's specifically disallowed to enter on I-94 and convert to other non-immigrant status (H1, L1, fiance, student) for a longer stay - you have to leave and apply for the other visa - in your own country - be approved and re-enter in the correct status. Someone I know married a completely out-of-status Canadian and she got residency. I still don't know how he swung that, but they have a special set of rules and visas that only apply to Canadians.

No, the people that live in these countries are too distracted by TV and the Internet to breed. The only reason that most European countries aren't facing an overall population decline is because they are importing foreigners who do breed.

Dallas, NYC, Chicago, LA is full of paid brides. They are even legal citizens and way hot! You have to provide them a level of lux but then again you get what you pay for.

Four friends of mine are married to Russian or FSU (former Soviet Union) ladies. One has been married over 10 years, the others over 5 years each. One of them lost the marriage when she flaked out but he remarried another woman from the Ukraine and she is a babe. The rest of them are very nice ladies and for the most part heads and shoulders above ANY women here in America. I dated one from the Ukraine who was already living in America and she was wonderful. Another gent asked her to get married before I did and he took the prize. She still stays in touch and if she ever is single again hope I find out first. Am dating a lady from Eastern Europe now who lives in Canada and there is just no way to compare. Less baggage, nice to be with and not high maintenance, she just wants to enjoy life with a guy who will treat her as a person. They have little future in their old home, and want to find a man to spend life with who will give them and their kids a future. This crap about "mail order brides" is pure BS. there is no way that they are mail order anything, but simply introduction services using the internet. No different from "Plenty of fish," Match.com or Yahoo personals. Difference is that they live a long way away but are looking for someone to have a relationship with. Yes, there are quite a few scammers but there are scammers in our world here as well, so deal with it.
