Well, his AK47 appeared to be an AKM. And when he showed the funnctioning components of the two semi receivers, he failed to show the FA receiver... maybe because it looks almost the same as the other two?

But he is 100% correct that many people's opinions of what is an assault weapon has more to do with how a firearm LOOKS than how it functions.

The media does not help the problem with their search for ever more sensationalized stories. Just last night I was watching some show that dramatized a "crazed drug addict" who went on a "shooting rampage" on a freeway. He was armed with a Tec-9 "assault weapon", and must have fired at least 300 rounds from that 30 round clip.

Media < Poop.

Nice to know someone else that's even heard of the AKM. I've actually always liked that gun more than the venerable AK-47, but I wouldn't turn down the chance to own either.

The only real problem I have with fully automatic assault rifles is that unfortunately I don't own one yet.

There was one major mistake in the presentation. Fully automatic weapons are legal to own. You only need to be subject to a background check, signoff by local law enforcement, and pay the transfer tax. There are restrictions on what can be purchased. I am waiting on the Supreme Court decision to buy.

That was a pretty useless vid in terms of information to even the most casual gun enthusiast.

Also, how much more dangerous is a full-auto compared with a semi with a large clip? I feel like in the right hands the semi could do nearly as much damage.

A friend of mine put it this way - "Full-auto is for the indiscriminate in aiming".

They sure are fun to shoot though.

It was not intended for people who own firearms. It was intended to instruct the Vox populi.

Funny how the "rampaging crazed druggie" with an "assault rifle" makes the news, but the story about the 11 year old girl who defended her house with a shotgun against armed burglars while her parents were away doesn't get any press. I sure am glad the media isn't biased at all; it sure would suck if they presented stories with the intent to make the populace believe something in particular wouldn't it?

(Turns out the 11 year old girl was raised in Montana by a gun enthusiast, and she had borne the title of "skeet shooting champion" for several years already. The burglars in question had stolen their fire-arms from other people they had killed down the street. The little girl nailed the first one in the groin at point-blank range. He bled out in a matter of seconds. The second one, on realizing that the house was not only occupied, but occupied by someone with a shotgun, fled. She shot him in the shoulder as he was passing through the front door. He bled out before he reached the end of the driveway. Then she went back to playing with her Barbie Dolls.)

In California, that little girl would be prosecuted, I guarantee it.

"Full-auto is for the indiscriminate in aiming". As they say, pray and pray. FA fire does tend to get the attention of the bystanders if that's your intention (it would get mine).

well if the citizens are to fight ethor the government gone bad or an invading power
as our founding fathers said in #2 [ie a militia]
I bet the others side has full auto
so are the citizens a militia [of last resort ] or not ?
if they are, they sure should have equal firepower

The "WMD" of the time was the cannon. Cannons were allowed to be personally owned, just very expensive.

The "truth" is, if one could afford a nuclear weapon, it should be legal to own, based on the constitution.

Real reason for the 2nd amendment - to give the possibility of revolt if needed...

Bonus question - when was the last time citizenry took up arms against the government here in the states?

Answer: http://www.jpfo.org/athens.htm
