I think that's giving politicians too much credit.

I think, even worse, that they HAVE read the Bill of Rights and think that:

1. it's outdated/does not apply
2. it has "exceptions"
3. it doesn't apply to them
4. it should be downplayed/circumvented if possible because it's "inconvenient"
5. they know better

or "6. all of the above"

I can think of very few politicians who are patriots. For that matter, I can think of very few patriots who bother with politics these days.

the whole ideological divide comes down to "positive" and "negative" rights.

positive rights are things like the right to an education, housing, medical care, food, etc.

negative rights are the right to free speech, , religion, self defense, property, etc.


negative rights are those things someone has to take away from you. positive rights have to be given by someone else. positive rights don't exist. most of the crap in this country comes from people who don't get the simple distinction.

College education should be a right? Wrong, it should be earned, there are many Grants and thing to pay for school, or you can do like I did (and others here too) work a few jobs to pay for it.
