I always read and try to comment on these dear pet threads.
I find myself tearing up and remembering the years I spent with all my little buddies. Pets are awesome. They really are wonderful. They depend on us. We have two brother and sister cats, about three years old. One of them, the boy, is very routine. *Everyday* he waits outside the shower for me. When I open the door for my towell he darts in, talking all the way. I pour the water on him. He licks off the water while I dry off. I count on him to be there everyday. Byron, man, I'm so sorry your pal is wearing down. Bring tears to my eyes. KT

You've got the right attitude about it, Byron. Good luck. Sleep well, Carrera.

You are a good man doing a very difficult thing...hang in there man. My g/f (9 years) and I broke up a few days ago, and my loyalty to my dog had a lot to do with it. As long as they're not in pain, you do what you have to imo...take care of Carrera and yourself Byron.

my cats Nutmeg and Eddie sends his best to Carerra.
Nutmeg is 15 and started acting a little extra-hyper over the past few months. He has always been a hyperactive, agressive but very affectionate, playful and friendly cat...but this was a little different. He started showing some obsession for the bathroom sink, and then started jumping up there watching the water go out of the faucet. I put some in my hands and he would drink from it....this became an every day thing, three or four times a day.... So I took him to the vet for a checkup and bloodwork...he showed higher than normal levels for Creatinine and BUN, showing that his kidneys were not functioning well....this could be the onset of kidney disease, or hyperthyroidism which is the growing of the thyroid gland putting out too much output... Well it turned out to be hyperthyroidism.... we tried these Tapazole pills to get the symptoms under control, but he had some reactions to it within a few days... so I made an appointment to get this Radioactive therapy next week in LA. They inject a radioactive solution into the cat and it is supposed to stop the theroid gland from growing and actually reverses it back to normal....they say it is effective 95% of the time... So he will be away for 4 days next week, in a cage at night... I know that he will be miserable there, as he hates the vet and is very aggressive towards them when they try to poke and prod him.... but I hope that this treatment will work and then he can get back to normal and we can then monitor his kidney function.... I absolutely love this cat more than anything in my life.....he is so cool. |

the cat or me ...
just goes to show that some Ladies haven't a clue I wish you both well, tells me alot when you stand by & with your friends be they 2, or 4 legged. The outcome may not be the desired one, but you stood fast & didn't forget, or run. I know you would trade some toys and a lady or two to give Carrera more time. Rika |

Hang in there man. Pets are so loyal where many humans are not. My GF has two cats who are living with me right now. They are a trip. My little house is quite exciting when my two labs are here (share custody with my ex) with them. If she wasn't totally cool with my Dogs, she'd be gone for sure.

Well, for the most part, he has had a OK day, I couldn't find him this morning, and again, thought the worst, after tearing up the place searching for him, I hear him meow, (he wasn't talking much yesterday) and walk toward the his water fountain, not very well, but he was walking. Then he walked to the kitchen to get some more water. After that he went to the living room, again, very slowly and laid on the bottom of his Kitty Condo for a while. I just waited for him to LMK when he wanted to come to the office, which he did. He has been resting on a chair right next to me with an old PCA club race shirt keeping him warm. He did let me know when he needed to go to his box, so I sat him in, he leaned against the side, as he can't stand up now
, did his biz & I took him back to the water, where he drank some more, then let me know when he was ready come back to his supervisory position so he can keep an eye on me. Looks like I'm staying in again tonight.![]() Keep the kind thoughts coming

Your a good man Byron...
Reminds me of when one of my cats broke his back leg and I had to take him to box to go to the bathroom. Funny how they just give you a certain look and without thinking you know to take them to the box. I'll give Scupper and Rhoda a hug when I get home. ![]()

Jeez...Byron,
First thing I did this morning was to "try" to log on to this thread to see how you were both doing - the issues the site was having were driving me crazy as all I wanted to do was to find out how things were for Carrera... Now my 10yo daughter has walked past and asked me "whose cat?". I tell her and show her some more of the thread - now she is rooting for Carrera too "he's adorable - oh poor little cat!". I had a Border Collie X for years - she was my best friend. If she had not taken to Mike as she did (simply adored him and it was mutual) then Mike would not be married to me - simple! Aggie came to work with me each day, would love to ride in the car no matter where I was going...she would prefer to come out for dinner and sleep in the car for a while than stay home without me and I loved having her around. We were inseparable and everyone around me just accepted that. When our eldest son was born Mike brought Aggie to the hospital every night so I could walk her and have a play. The nurses even agreed to us taking baby Tom out to meet her in the gardens of the hospital. Aggie took to the baby and slept under his cradle every night. She wouldn't take her eyes off him during the day and would take my wrist in her mouth and drag me to him if he was crying or not well. 5 years later almost to the day, we went through the same scenario when Charlotte was born. Aggie was now 13. I was concerned that she would be too old to tolerate another baby - no way! She assumed her sleeping position under the cradle and took up her role as "nanny" again. Sadly, I had to put her down when Charlotte was only 4 months old due to a nasty and incurable stomach complication. Aggie was in pain and in distress. It was very fast - less than a day to make decisions. We all fell apart - Mike, Mum, Dad, me and 5yo Tom. All our friends fell apart too - she was a "lady among *****es" and was much loved by all. It took me until earlier this year to agree to another dog...and she is very sweet, much loved and loving, but she is not my Aggie. So you see....we feel your pain. You are blessed to have your little Carrera - we're sending good thoughts and wishes for both of you. |

No, just a black cat who kept yelling under the aptment window fow a few days until I went out to investigate. He was so small that he fit in the palm of my hand, just a tiny lil guy. It took over 2 hours and he wouldn't let me near him, but any time I turned to walk away, he would run towatds me, screaming his head off until until I would stop and come back. I had to get him to follow me through a field, across a parking lot, then up the stairs to a 3rd apartment
and of course the girl I was living with (a shrink) was mad that I brought this "stray" into our home He slept in my hair that night. Now, many moons later, he is limp in my lap, very weak, poor guy can't stand up on his own, just resting & waiting

You are a good daddy, Racer, and Carrera will have lived a good life. There is one race that is unwinnable, though.
Mom will soon have to put down our 16y.o. labrador who was the best dang dog in the world. Used to chew through a small log in an hour, and he would fetch small trees for me to throw. As a puppy, I'd put him on the front of the windsurfer, and he had no problem swimming across half the lake with me. I'll remember him well.
