I've been holding pretty steady, still mid/upper 190's. Not any progress, but not getting fatter either, which I guess is something to be a little happy about. Not traveling as much for work has certainly helped.

I have just about convinced myself that the alcohol intake has got to stop or get severely cut-back to cut-out those calories and for other reasons, like sleeping better. I have 'felt' a difference around my waistline after not drinking for only 5-6 days, although I have not tried to confirm it on the scale. I suppose the trick would be to not compensate by just eating more and/or worse food.

Steady progress. Partly due to regularly working again, I think.

Need to start walking again and climbing those stairs...

I'll jump in here. I had a health scare about 2 1/2 years ago that motivated me to get into shape. I weighed about 230lbs at the time. I decided I wanted to do triathlons. I took me about a years worth of training. I got down to about 177lbs at one point & was in the best condition of my life. My longest run was over 15 miles & I did a couple of 100 mile bike rides.

I was going to the local YMCA 4 or 5 times a week for the swimming & weight training. Eventually, all the running took its tool on my knees & the doctor said it was from over use. My first sprint triathlon was exhilarating, I did very well, but it was a short swim, only 450 yards. My next sprint tri wasn't as much fun. The swim was 800 yards, and even though I tried to hang back at the beginning, I was still in a lot of traffic & getting kicked a lot. I don't really care for swimming.

After that, I said f*ck it, I canceled my YMCA membership & let myself slide. I was able to keep the weight off for quite a while by watching my diet, but eventually it started to creep back up. When I hit 190lbs, I tried to start running again, but the problem with my knees came back.

About a month ago I hit 200lbs. I hated the way I felt. I couldn't play golf without suffering for 3 days with back pain. They just built a brand new beautiful L A Fitness about a half mile from my home, so I joined. I've been hitting it hard for a week now & am pretty sore. I'm trying to be careful with my knees, but if they give me problems, I'm going to get a referral to a specialist to get them fixed. I refuse to let them be a road block to my fitness.

My goals are to do 2 sprint triathlons, 2 half marathons & 2 centuries next year. I'm 5' 11" 195lbs & 44 years old.

Careful with your knees Paul.

On Tuesday I dropped the son at baseball practice and went for a 30 minute run around the sports complex. Trail is mixture of hardpack dirt and deep grass. It felt fantastic! I was so happy I stopped at Sports Chalet and bought a new pair of running shoes. On Wednesday morning I got out of bed and my knees felt like they were compacted bone to bone. I brought the un-used running shoes back for a refund...

Have you tried cycling?

trekkor 10-13-2009 09:14 AM

Still holding on.

I'm trying another approach.

Let's see what happens.

UUUMMMMMM I'm in too.

I think I need to join in.

Anyone want to REVIVE the effort here..... I just got done reading through all the thread pages and seems as though the momentum has dwindled down.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO......................

Anyone want to start up again?

i recently weighed myself and was shocked to see the 200lb mark. I hadnt weighed myself in 15 years or soo but I guess I gradually moved up the scale...

I'm looking to get to 180-185 lbs.

I was reading the entry on the cleanse.... apple juice, olive oil, lemon juice......

ANYONE HAVE ANY SIMPLE HOME cleanses like that one to chime in with?

that is the start..... A couple of months ago started back into my Jui-Juistu classes and started running 2-3 miles 3 times a week..... been sticking to it pretty well......

anyone want to join the effort?

Down another 2 lbs here. Finally gave up and pretty much stopped drinking and boy does it make a difference. Yea I know ice tea is not the same as a margarita at night but sure is nice to see the pounds drop off!

Trekkor, we are coming up on a bad time of year for dieters, "the holiday season". I am with you, must resist the cookies and sweets! Must resist.. Good luck Glenn

Yep. Cut the wine/booze/beer and you're gonna drop weight and get better sleep...as I pour myself a second glass of Makers Mark... Hey I'm on travel, in Philly, so I deserve this drink...err...these drinks.

down 40 pounds since April...ive been rowing every day, and lifting every other day. If I take a few days off, I feel like crap, so the key is just keeping with the habit. In college I was 5% body fat and 180 pounds.....i'm 5'8". Last winter I was up to 240. Back down to 200, with about 20 to go.

Margaritas are about 600 calories a pop. You're better off sipping straight tequila.

Targeting 190-200 by years's end.

I figure I've eaten *anything* I've ever wanted for all these 41 years.
A few months of regulation won't hurt me ( actually it will help )

Paul, now time to go back to triathlon and make it YOUR way of life...
