Religion is little more than a form of government. Societal governments have the military, laws and scare tactics to back them up.

Religion has God, laws and scare tactics to back it up.

Other than innate, evolutionary herding instinct, honest to God I don't know why people need religion.

I believe in God plenty, and point to the conscience as evidence. But religion? too much Man in it.

Actually, both sides of the debate depend on the crux of that very point, and I have yet to hear a compelling rational why a healthy group of cells or a viable foetuses are not, or will not become, a person.
