And it does so by leaving the specifics of religion *out* of the lionshare of the documents. I think that is a key point. If you go with the spirit of what they wrote, including explicit religious language/dogma isn't cool. And if you do want to include it, then you better make room for Allah, Shiva, etc. And I don't think a lot of Christians would like that very much...
OK. I was actually worried there was something on the site I'd missed.

What you wrote above seems reasonable. Again, I'm not arguing for a theocracy or allowing a slippery slope. I'm arguing that it's not possible to keep religious beliefs from influencing government. Nothing more or less.

The argument above was that religious beliefs should be crushed once they cross into politics - it was argued vigorously and it's stupid. I was trying to make the point that ALL beliefs (religious or otherwise) influence government and invade politics. That our government has always been influenced by religious (and other) beliefs. The idea that you can keep beliefs (any "beliefs"), separate from government is purely ridiculous.

Who will pay for this:

I want you to know that I think you people are garbage.

What's more, when you die, everything goes black, and then nothing happens. You just stop.

This thread is getting very close to needing a dose of my immigrant (legally by the way) grandpa's inimitable logic and philosophy on surviving in the USA.

Stay tuned.

668 posts in three days in a thread about abortion, religion, and politics - certainly not hot-button topics, eh?

This thread is destined to just go around and around and around and around, etc, with no one here changing their mind. All it's likely to do is create hostility, misunderstanding, and hurt feelings all around.

I think for the most part, and considering the topic(s), this thread has remained relatively civil.

I also feel the same way about the "God" thread.

Have a great weekend folks!

Best,

Kurt

Remember folks, you can go to sleep tonight with a clear conscience. Get you zygote credits now! Send money to Mule c/o PPOT.

Does that help?

As the father of two, it's a concept that makes me sick. I absolutely cannot believe that there are those in our society who feel it is ok to take the life of a child.
Good lets force parent hood on people who don't want it or can't provided for the child. The adoption argument doesn't work either since there are thousands of children waiting to be adopted. Your proposing to add even more children to the already overburdened system.

Plus the world is over crowed anyways why do we need more people.

lets force parent hood on people

When a couple decides to have sex, they accept the risk that a baby may be the outcome.

This issue is about convenience and irresponsibilty, isn't it?

I believe people live anyway they please because they feel, whatever the outcome, they have an "out".

If abortion was not an option, how do you think people would behave with no "out"?

It's been a while since I've been able to agree with Porsche-O-Phile on the "Off Topic Discussions" forum, but I agree whole heartedly with him on this point. Maybe for a different reason then his though. Historically, there has never been anything that "de-Christianized" a country more effectively then making some form of Christianity the "State Religion". It happened with the Anglicans in England, The Lutherans in Sweden and the Catholics in France. Germany only slightly less so since they adopted both Catholicism and Lutheranism. I suspect that Italy hasn't had the same experience since they already have one Christian bureaucracy in the Catholic Church, so there was no reason to mingle it with the government.

On the other hand, there have been few places where Christianity has been as successful as Rome, up until Constantine. Rome was already in decline when he converted, and as expected, having the state religion being Christianity didn't save that culture. But then Jesus always maintained that his kingdom was not of this Earth, so it shouldn't be a surprise -- at least not to the Christians.

Anyhow, this is most likely fodder for another thread...

Thanks to the first zygote credit purchasers. But like all religion based operations, we need more money. Remember, Mule c/o PPOT.
