I would have asked any of those guys if they were on the way to the hospital for a strapadictomy.

Tell him" The proctoligist called They found his head" I have owned Porsche's for over 20 years water cooled and air cooled and enjoy both types. But I have no room for A-holes when it comes to the (mine is better than your's) discussion. I'm not a twevle year old and don't want to act like one. Guy's like this need to go pack sand

It always amazes me what folks will say to a stranger. It is not just with Porsches. I was wearing an old "Hawaii" t-shirt that I bought on vacation once and a guy walked up to me in a store and said, "you've never been to Hawaii, have you?"

About a week after 9-11 (I was actually at the Pentagon that day) I was checking out at a Lowes near a military base...when a young "20-something" punk checkout guy offered me a bumpersticker with some sort of patriotic slogan...I gently told him, "no thanks. Save it for someone else." He slammed me for not being patriotic. I guess he did not make the connection with the military haircut and proximity to the base. I was speachless...so surprised that I didn't even have a come back. I had about 25 years in the military at that time and was preparing to go to war....again...and it never occurred to me that anyone would ever call me unpatriotic.

On the other hand...I am also sick of people that I work for/with...telling me that I should not receive an earned salary increase "because I own a Pooorsh and obviously make too much already." For crying out loud...my '74 only cost me $5k...about what the wheels cost on their new SUV.

I have actually had a good encounter with a Boxster S driver, he pulled up along side of me and complemented my car. I complemented his and we drove off.

I have had both types of experience. I have seen Boxster owners that didn't even know that the 924S was a Porsche. One time a few years ago though, my dad and I were out doing a couple spirited runs out in the countryside and a Boxster turned on to the road behind us as my dad and I were doing a U-turn to do another run. The guy driving was probably 25. We punched it up and he stayed right with us. When we got to then end i stuck my hand out the window signaling for another run. As we completed our u-turn he smiled, waved and went off in the other direction. He was a good sport.

Not really related but I stopped at a 7-11 a few years ago and some rough old gal asked me if the 356 was one of them Ferreaze. I just said yep. She said wow I never seen one of them before.

Sat night a Cayman owner with some of this attitude apparently was unaware that those old 928's have V8's. Result, humiliation.

The only disturbing thing I've even seen a Boxster owner do is all to common these days. She got in her Boxster in the parking garage and backed out of the space while dialing up a cell phone, putting on her seat belt, turning on her radio and using only her mirror while never looking back.................and I don't think she turned on her headlights either.

I see this every day, mostly by young women, but not always.

........Their was time many years ago when Porsche owners, when passing opposite each other or at a light at an intersection would come to use the "autobahn flicker". A simple flick or blink of the headlights was a greeting, a simple acknowledgement that we were driving great cars. Afterall they were all air-cooled in those days. We reveled in our ownership, pride in our automobiles and boasted our claims like some cock on the walk! Ah, the good old days. The air-cooled man ruled! After all it was a Porsche 911.........

Today, blinking at a newer Porsche on the road brings nothing but a confused look on the drivers face. A, "what the hell was that all about" response!

Those days and tradition seem far behind us now; however, on occasion during my weekend bond on the twisties with, "Misses Brown", once in awhile an older 911 driver who knows and shares the older traditions will pass with a rapid flick of the headlights and a big smile. Man, does that is cool! Adds much to the drive.

Miata owners did this, too, although that trend seems to be dying out.

When I'm in my Miata, I do the autobahn flicker at any cool car. Most people in 911s, 944s, or 914s respond. So does anyone in any old British or Italian roadster.

I can appreciate the Boxster...and all of the other cars you've listed. Hell, just the other day, I flashed my lights and gave the thumbs up to a beater 914 that was approaching (a car that's always been on my list of cars to own). He responded with a wave. And beyond Porsches, there's a myriad of other cars that I adore, too!

I was merely pointing out one experience with a particular group on a particular day. Maybe to just commiserate with Byron? And as I mentioned, I know that I was generalizing. But as Wayne and others pointed out, "there are losers within every crowd". The way these particular owners dismissed that 356 just wasn't cool. As a car guy, you don't have to fall in love with every old car (or new) and desire to own one, however, there are certain circumstances where one should give credit where credit is due...

Never had a bad encounter... the 924S keeps a pretty low profile I guess. Did get a thumbs-up from someone in a nice yellow 996 once and that really made my day.

Just tell him "cute Miata" and ask how come he didn't get the "Hello Kitty" version.

Good times will ensue.

Pulled into a gas station next to a boxster a few years ago (Porsches aren't all that common here in GVille) and the driver looked at my 356 and said "What is that? Some type of VW?"... I think he honestly didn't know. I looked over at him and his boxster and said "This is your car's great grandfather..." and left it at that.

Byron, you should have simply mentioned that the PORSCHE motor on the trailer behind you is worth more than his car. If nothing else, it would have shut him up.

Last yr my insurance agent came over the house. We are sitting there going over some papers, and I mention coverage for the 944. she says "oh cool, I have a Poorsh too". I say yeah what kind? She says, Its a silver one, my husband got it for me. I get up look, outside. sure enough, a Boxter. I say your parked right next to mine. She says, "oh, I thought that was a Toyota or something:..
