No worse than Rick Mears or Niki Lauda but horrible none the less. They say most burn victims die because there is no longer 'will' to live because of the pain and thoughts of being scarred for life.

No, most burn victims die of infection or dehydration

Thanks for the clarification. Guess you can't believe everything you read.

Many of you have seen the front half of the video showing the crash carnage leading up to this. The track workers/officials were derelict, for not stopping the race due to slick rain conditions and foremost for the demonstrated lack of preparation for an emergency - somewhat predictable given the nature of motorsports.

As for the subject line; poor choice of words for a non-Darwinian award event.

The title of this thread is plain stupid. It does raise a question though, how many of you wear nomex gear when tracking your car? I personally don't own nomex, but after seeing this video, I wonder if it wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in a suit.

I thought he was referring to "dye" instead of "die" and "scared" instead of "scarred".

Watching that? Made my stomach turn.
Am not that afraid of it but agree that it would be one of the worst ways to go.

I was in my mid-20's and got 1-2nd degree from the waist up. Flash gasoline fire. At least I did not need a haircut for a long time.

Now have fire extinguishers everywhere...

I have a nomex suit from the days when I used to play in helicopters. They can be had pretty cheap, but the important thing is to make sure they fit fairly loose (keep the hot material away from your skin) and to wear only cotton underneath. Nylon will literally melt to your skin in the event of a fire. I have seen this video before, and I have no desire to see it again. But after your thoughts, I'm going to wear my nomex suit when I finally take my car to the track!

BTW, bad title for the thread, IMHO...

Paul.
