We decided that would be a good idea after WWI. The country adopted a policy of isolationism and downsized the military accordingly.

When the Axis powers were threatening with WWII we said no ,we're staying out of it. We sold materials to Britain and tried to help our ally survive, but we tried to do it without military force and tried diplomatic means (especially with the Japanese) because "we didn't want to get involved".

Well, the Germans torpedoed our ships, the Japanese bombed our ships, and we got drug into it anyway. the big difference was, we were so far behind militarily that it took 5 years to win instead of 2.
The first three years of the war were basically spent gearing up our war machine so we could compete.
If we had been strong in the first place it might not have happened at all or it would have been over much quicker and saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

Or, we could just build a big wall along our borders to keep the bad guys out. Ask the French how well that worked for them.

Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it.

Good post Sammy. The quote that prompted you was from a Canadian. Maybe he doesn't have the honour of the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division.

Yup, the 5 powers act worked for us and the Maginot Line worked for the French.

My post should have been green. And it referred to immigration if you read it in context.

I will ignore the other implications of the added comments.

I live in the world of the U.S. Military, career man. If you've got time in, let me know and we'll talk, if not, I don't joust with those who haven't. I don't have time for the spectators.

So if you don't get elected (major conspiracy), come North and I'll support your bid for:

Term limits are essential. Who would want me in office for very long.

Border security: Build the damn fence along the entire southern border.

You won't be able to vote me in, but you'll be able to vote for my second term

(when we annex Mexico and Canada...)

Suggestions:

No foreign aid

No Federal Reserve

Establish a currency backed by hard assets

Close the borders
