This may just be my opinion, but I'd say that there is a rather large difference between a Smart car and a 911.

Just for Whipped: some nice alternatives to crappy cars and dyke movers:

Starting in 2010, Audi will sell their new A1 in The States.
It looks a lot better than the current A1.


Here's a Mercedes B-series 4-door I could get into. Saw quite a few in Europe. They're larger than they look; maybe the size of a Ford Escape. There is a turbo diesel model with something like 300 pounds of torque. Not sold in the U.S.




VW supposedly says they will, then says they won't sell their Tiguan here. Why? Because the U.S. dollar continues to be so weak.

I saw a lot of the 1 series 5 doors in Japan. I think they'd sell better here than the two doors they're trying to sell.

I keep saying that I'll ride the bike to work once a week but with the wacky Houston weather, I'm just not doing it.

I'd have to keep my truck for towing and house projects but I could drive a Mini Cooper the rest of time. I could pick up a new base Mini Cooper with sport package for about $20K or the S for about $23K.

We loved the 2005...so we bought the 2009. Both got the 1.8 liter engine. The 2005 don't have side air-bags, just the front pax ones...but the 2009 got them (6 in all)...It's the family car...When we need more room...I simply install the Thule coffin on the roof rack. Despite living in Sweden, where the gas is twice as expensive as in (whining) USA, I will not let go of my 96 Grand Cherokee with its primitive push rod 5.2 L V8. When I fill her up it costs the equivalent of almost $180!!

I was thinking if you went through and reworked the liberty car. I think a big V twin up front, and a large hoop roll bar behind the passenger compartment. If you could whip together some kind of convertable top you could attach, or even better yet a hard top you could bolt on, it would be a pretty nice vehicle for most of the year.

I guess my route into work is a fairly representitive combined cycle, probably 50/50 freeway/city. So the 22mpg combined is fair if I drive normally. Lately I have been trying to perfect my driving to get the best fuel economy so have been trying some of these hypermiling techniques. I treat it as a bit of a game to see how far I can stretch it out. I do find that I drive by the mpg read out now and hit the cruise whenever I can. It is hard to resist the temptation to put the boot in and it does get the better of me every now and again.

If fuel does get anymore expensive I will be using it as an excuse to find one of these...



I really want one but I can't justify owning another car to Mrs. Aerkuld just yet!

Nah - I'll stick with my mid-20+ MPG. It's a better all-around ride.

I never have cared for big heavy cars. Since 1980, every car I have driven has been a 4 cylinder that got at least 25 mpg.(save for the truck my wife owned when we got married, and the SUV she has now)

Maybe he was carrying the fuel in his car for use in other things....lawn mower, boat....they are quite cavernous. I imagine he could put 150gallons in there...
