and I went...to pick her up ....in the rain.....

True story:

The late great jazz drummer, Buddy Rich, was on his death bed. Barely awake, his nurse heard him groan lightly. She approached him and said:

"Mr. Rich, please...tell me what it is that pains you so much."

He opened his weak eyes, looked up at her and said. . . ."country music".

Ha Ha, just be glad he isn't into rap. In the farming/rural communities of Ohio, country music is very popular, but so is most other music. I guess it must have influenced my younger brother subconciously growing up in Ohio. He never cared for country music as a kid, yet several years after he moved to California where he played sax in a jazz band, he and some others started a country band (MerchantsofMoonshine.com). They keep busy and suprisingly have established quite a following out there.

I personally have a wide range of music that I like..... My car radio presets include classical, classic rock, oldies and country.

Tied with Achy Breaky Heart for worst country song ever

Im an indian outlaw
Half cherokee and choctaw
My baby shes a chippewa
Shes one of a kind

All my friends call me bear claw
The village cheaftin is my paw-paw
He gets his orders from my maw-maw
She makes him walk the line

You can find me in my wigwam
Ill be beatin on my tom-tom
Pull out the pipe and smoke you some
Hey and pass it around

cause Im an indian outlaw
Half cherokee and choctaw
My baby shes a chippewa
Shes one of a kind

I aint lookin for trouble
We can ride my pony double
Make your little heart bubble
Lord like a glass of wine

I remember the medicine man
He caught runnin water in my hands
Drug me around by my headband
Said I wasnt her kind

cause Im an indian outlaw
Half cherokee and choctaw
My baby shes a chippewa
Shes one of a kind

I can kill a deer or buffalo
With just my arrow and my hickory bow
From a hundred yards dont you know
I do it all the time

They all gather round my teepee
Late at night tryin to catch a peek at me
In nothin but my buffalo briefs
I got em standin in line

cause Im an indian outlaw
Half cherokee and choctaw
My baby shes a chippewa
Shes one of a kind

Cherokee people
Cherokee tribe
So proud to live
So proud to die

Whats so bad about Country Music?

I used to make all the same jokes as everyone else in this thread about it. 3 years ago when we bought our house in the Smoky Mountains all we could get on the radio was a local Country station, I put it on more for the noise than anything while working on the house.

Go figure, as I listened more and more I began to like it, the songs, almost 98% of them are not filthy like Rap where they are bragging about screwing "Ho's" or blowing loads on chicks backs and pulling a sheet over it and calling it a "Superman" <-- yeah next time your kid yells out Superman in a rap song, that is what they are talking about. I do not have to listen to the cry baby the world hates me emo music that is called rock.

I actually turn it on now even on my Sirius and I actually enjoy it.

Ive been a rocker my whole life. Grew up on classic rock. Was a long haired leather and spandex wearing metal head back in the 80's.. Love rock and always will!

But........... now a good portion of my music library is country. I love it now. Pretty much what I listen to most of the time. Theres alot of talented artists out there.
(who actually play thier own music and instruments).

Like others have said. At least he aint listening to hip hop and gangster rap shyte.

I'd rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard than country music. You have my deepest sympathy.

All I have to say is this:

Listen to Alison Krauss--especially the albums with Union Station (although the new one with Robert Plant isn't so bad either). She has the voice of an angel. (She did most of the vocals on the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack.) She also plays fiddle. She is the single most talented woman in the music industry--bar none.

Oh, and she's pretty hot too--but not a manufactured hot. She just has a natural beauty and familiarity about her. I think her talent and intelligence make her hotter. She's also a local girl (from Decatur, Illinois).

Considering the crap that passes for popular music these days, country isn't looking so bad. At least the women don't look trashy and cheap.

Just be greatful that his pants still cover his ass.

Have you checked his closet to see if he has a pair of those boots?

And really really big belt buckle?

I hear those belt buckles can cause curvature of the spine!

Can't believe some of you are taking this thread seriously... Todd was right... what a bunch of poopy heads!

modern pop country music is pure crap. Predictable and formulaic retardation for your ears.

Buy him the Gram Parsons anthology, some Uncle Tupelo, Olds 97s, first 2 Wilco albums, a few Lucinda Williams rekkids etc and see if you can't get him on the right track.

Then get him some Louvin Brothers, Kitty Welles, Cash, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Buck Owens etc.

I despise commercial 'country'. The arrangements sound like kenny loggins circa 1984 with an affected twang and lyrical pablum involving the usual 'safe' subjects. Die!

I don't do his wash, i just wanted it out of the dryer so i could do mine.

He is a full time college student & works 30 hours a week & coaches the O-line for the High school football team.

He really is a great kid & have never had any problems with him.

He can live at home while he is a student, but if that country music keeps eminating from his room, then we are going to have issues

LOL Dan. You must be a music critic cause the film critics say the same sort of things about really entertaining movies 99% of the population just want a catchy tune with some catchy lyrics.

I grew up with rock and to this day really can't listen to old country. I just cannot get past the "Hee Haw" sound - it's very disturbing. Newer country has gone more mainstream and I'd rather my kids listen to it than rap. My 11 yr son is into rock (AC-DC, Smashing Pumpkins, etc...) and my 9 yr daughter is all country.
