CNN had a story about that house but didn't go into much detail. They did say it was a new house built to new building codes.

The engineering firm and builder behind that house should really use that for advertising. Wow.

The "urban legend" around Habitat for Humanity is that the only homes left in Homestead, Florida a few years ago were the Habitat homes.

I know from experience in Alabama - they build to a tougher standard than the local code..

Reminds me of the story of this house that survived flooding about 10 years ago.

IIRC, insulated concrete form (ICF) homes handle stuff like this pretty well...I wonder if this house is ICF or similar.

The owners' previous house was damaged in a storm a few years back. This replacement was built to withstand a Cat 5. The exterior "looks" like it survived, but the homeowner interviewed on CNN said the interior was trashed.
