I bought one a pet smart, it cost me $75, it worked for the little dogs for a short time, never worked on the German Shepherd at all.

They barked all day they barked all night.

The Shiatsu would dig under the fence and get into my yard, I had fantasies of blowing it into little pieces with my Glock .40.

I was not about to waste any more money trying to make neighbors dogs stop barking plus I won a dog so it seemed a little unfair to my nice and quiet Choc. Lab. to have this high pitched noise irritating it because of neighbors dogs.

Call animal control let them deal with it, fines do wonders to people.

I can't believe how many of you spineless bastards suggest dealing with this in some way while still remaining anonymous. That's a large part of what is wrong with society these days. If you have a problem with the guy's dog, go talk to him about it, fer chrissakes. No anonymous notes. No anonymous complaints. No neighbor support groups. Man up an go talk to him like you have a pair.

I has a similar problem with a neighbor and his dog some years ago. He simply would not control his dog. It barked all night (chained up to the side of the house - no fence), ran free all day, crapped in everyone's yards, and was a general nuisance. I talked to him about the dog a couple of times. I finally told him if it shows up in my yard again, I would shoot it. He thought I was kidding. I wound up shooting his dog.

Wow, you two just gave me some hope. Our neighbors have two smaller dogs that are never in the house when our neighbors are, and never outside when the neighbors are. I guess they can't tolerate their dogs either. They constantly bark at any movement on either side of their yard.

I will be checking this out ASAP.

Thanks again

Tim

I like the idea of offering to walk/play with the dog. Ever see that show "the Dog Whisperer"? 99% of the time, behavioral problems are due to too much pent-up energy.

Unfortunately, in this society, you must worry about someone coming back at you. If you jack up a neighbor about something, next thing you know, your car is key'ed, etc. Or, they get a lawyer/police and say they've been assaulted, etc. It's a different world these days. Confronting d-bag neighbors never really corrects the matter...just turns them into bigger d-bags.

Now, as far as shooting a dog, not sure where you live, but that would get you a felony conviction here (unless the dog was attacking), so it's not a viable answer for this situation.

Years ago when I lived in the city, there was a meat distribution business (wholesaler) nearby. They must have had some sort of silent device on the property to keep animals away (pest control?). Everytime I walked my dog within 50' of that business, he would freeze in his tracks and try to back-pedal away from it. There must be some sort of ultrasonic device that causes dogs discomfort.

While I agree with you on the basic premise, I wouldn't shoot the dog. I'd try to catch it and drop it at a shelter. (what can I say, I like animals way more than I like most people)

Though making some doped meatballs sounds like it would have hilarious results. Wonder if Lunesta and Vicodan do the same thing to dogs that the combo does to humans

Open their gate... Leave it open.
Dog goes for a solo walk... If it needs exercise, you may never see it again.

Right on, I have 3 big peaceful dogs and everyone in the neighbor hood walks their little dogs over here to hear my big dogs bark at them. (drives me crazy)
So realizing that's what dogs do "BARK" I take my dogs out at all different hours of the night/early morning and MAKE THEM BARK.
Dogs bark be cool with it there is much worse things to worry about

Keep calling animal control. Get your neighbors to call too. Eventually they will take action. If not, drugging or poison is an option, if there no other animals or children around. Edit: well, looks like poisoning a pet dog can be a crime, so that's a problem. I guess you'll have to resort to something more terrible than poison . . . lawyers . . . Seriously, the local authorities usually will eventually take action, especially if enough people complain.

Don't punish the dog for the actions of the neighbors. Talk to the neighbors first. Most dogs just need love, a good home and some exercise. Give the dog a chew toy, some bisquits and give it some attention and watch who the dog listens to next.

We got a long anonymous note a few months back about our dogs. It was highly passive-aggressive and really pissed us off, because if the cowards had just come over and talked to us, we would have taken their complaint seriously and dealt with it like adults as opposed to Jr. High kids.

The ironic part is we think it was one particular neighbor that our dogs bark at when they're making a huge racket with their power tools -- tile saws, shop vacs, yard blowers etc. The dogs can't stand the sound and we can barely hear their barking over the equipment. These particular people chose to move into a neighborhood full of young kids and dogs and they're middle-aged DINK's.

I can't wait until the day when we can move someplace where our neighbors are at least a few hundred feet away...
