My one local PCA experience featured the membership chair loudly boasting about how he almost forgot to remove his ROLEX before changing his oil. "Can you believe it, I almost forgot to take off my ROLEX before changing the oil. I mean, can you imagine changing oil in a ROLEX? I mean, I might have gotten oil on my ROLEX."

ya know as a member of the az region pca club, we have an eclectic mix of people fer sure. but the one thing we have in common is the cars. and my local pca does it all. from the wine and cheese deals to the track. i have met some really cool people and really dont have one thing negative to say about anybody or anythang.
our concours due to the climate is beyond belief here in phx and tucson. some of the cars are "to die fer". and both clubs here in az work together on major events. have met some cool people at north snobbsdale porsche that are now my friends and alot of other hidden benefits. i have done concours with my car as well as the track here and at speedfest in fontuckey, kalif. and have had a "break the fun barrier" time at all of the events. hell theres so many "events" whatever they may be,track/DE/drives/dinners/meetings i cant keep up with all of them. but the real reason i enjoy it, is because it gives you an excuse to get off yer fat ass and go drive the damn car instead of it sitting in the garage all the time! plus the value added bonus of these events........................... you get to meet people that KNOW WHERE THE HELL THE ENGINE IS! |

lord man surely you can step it up a notch on the sugar water. Next time you're at the local booze joint pick up a bottle of something red from Argentina, Chile or Spain. Don't pay more than $11. Look for words like 'Malbec' or 'Rioja'.
Then go home and grill a steak (microwave dinner people will call you a grill snob for this), pour a big glass and enjoy. Have a bottle of 'Tilia' Malbec that was $8.99. Will be opening it later this evening and just maybe i'll stop at the grocery store for a steak so i can dine with you in spirit. i promise Dueller you'll find out that wine deserves your selectiveness just as much as steak, sports cars and anything else you have a passion for.

Yup, those items were in my pantry/fridge. As far as velveeta, an absolute must for the occasional greenbeen casserole, mac & cheese, quick rotel tomato dip, chicken spaghetti and many other fine southern, comfort foods. The Ritz? Can't beat 'em with a little cream cheese and homemade pepper jelly with a scotch on the rocks if dinner is gonna be a little late. And if you look in my fridge you'll likely find about 8-10 other cheeses from around the world. While I've heard there are some "boxed" wines that are pretty tasty for even sophisticated palates, I abhor blush wines no matter how packaged or what the price. That box is in the garage fridge for when the twins, with their immature palates, want to have a glass of wine with dinner. We've tried to acclimate them to more more sophisticated wines but they prefer the sweet kool-aid taste for now. My wife is an experienced sommelier having run another restaurant for 8 years with a cellar that will rival any in a metropolitan area. Alas, she leans towards the whites whereas, I am a die hard red wine fan. But then that can be a good thing. We currently have a modest cellar with perhaps 200 bottles of wines we each enjoy...most, if not all, are bargains we have found on sales bins, closeouts, case specials, etc. A lot of off beat Californias, South American and Australian/NZ varieties. Most under $20/bottle. Heck...now that I think about it, most under $9 a bottle. We are not wine snobs...we drink what we like and could care less what others think about our selections. We're glad to share our "finds" with others, but have no need to prove our sophistication. This thread was started solely to entertain. But since it has generated some serious responses and subtle jibes, let me state my real position. I can't stand pretentiousness. Whether its someone trying to impress me with their knowlege of wine or of the nuances of cam timing or the double apex in turn 7. Share with me. Teach me something I didn't know. Make me think. But don't make me a bit player in your passion play of egotism. And that's all I'm gonna say about that. ![]()

Ah fantastic!!!
Tell your wife i LOVE me some NZ Sauv. Blanc!!! Cheap and very very tasty. Some have been waaaaay too heavy on the grapefruit for me but others, like Matua, have been perfect (to my taste anyways!). Good stuff man and i agree with you completely on the pretentiousness. It has no place anywhere.

That IS a great line. As I sip my Chilean $8 bottle of nameless white.. with my NY Cheddar(Cuba) and Wheat Thins.. my hoi polli membership has never been questioned. (I know, I should have a bottle of Walter Taylor Bully Hill opened).
